IT'S TIME TO TAKE CHARGE OF THIS SITUATION! 3/23/2012

I do believe that you are blaming us students for your poor financial planning! I think we as students have waited long enough, and its time to file a class action lawsuite against you! We could care less that you are loosing your house or that you can't pay your bills. You knew your company was going into the whole long before the doors closed, YET YOU STILL BOUGHT BOOKS!! I went in there a sold back my books, was told wait 30 days then come get your money, I waited and then all of a sudden the doors were closed! I'm a single mother putting myself through college!! You took my gas money, food from my children's mouths!! I suggest you stop trying to save your house and right the people you have wronged! It's no one's fault but your own! So stop pointing the finger at everyone else! more

Not a Fraud...Just Unfortunate Circumstances 8/31/2011

We have served UVU for 10 years. Our model was to serve UVU students by paying 52% during buy-back. Additionally, we kept old editions in circulation by letting UVU professors know about the changes in each edition. Unfortunately, we counted on UVU loyalty to stay in business. However, when our competitors moved in 2 semesters ago, and paid Internet Buyback prices, you sold to us and bought from them. Our sales dropped in one semester so dramatically that it wiped us out. So now, students will have to buy new editions whenever they come out, and take whatever they can get for their books during buy-back. The disloyalty and small picture mentality of students ruined Beat the Bookstore's business model which was designed to keep textbook prices low and old editions in circulation. While I appreciate students' frustration, I'm doubtful if it compares to mine. So, while we are trying to save our house from foreclosure, and pay students back one at a time as we rebuild, everyone has to get in line behind the IRS and the state. more

Another Del Shanze in disquise 7/26/2011

I went to UVU bookstore to sell my PHYS 2210 textbook which I paid almost 170 for on Amazon, but shortly before I had gotten there, the bookstore had just bought the last copy they were invoicing. So I went to the Beat the Bookstore because previously I have had decent biz in there. I was told that I could get 50 for that book, and 35 for another one I had; but I couldn't have cash until 30 days had passed! Well, I needed the $ and still do. I did not have a use for the in-store credit because I am not attending college anymore. The guy there Eric told me I could always save the credit to use it during a later semester. I am not attending college anymore; so I wanted the cash. I was told to come back after 30 days and they would give me the cash. I went back appx. 33 days afterwards and the sign saying the store was closed until Tuesday was on the door. I took a picture of it with my cellphone because I could smell a snake in the grass. So then I continued calling on the telephone and would either get a voicemail that said the mailbox was full to call again later, or it woud ring off the hook. more

Green Book, LLC is the owner 7/26/2011

Apparently the company is going out of business. All I can find is John Gailey - going from one of the addresses listed, since Beat the Bookstore's only ownership info is Green Book, LLC in Utah. The address 1945 N. 150 E. Orem shows up and after googling, John Gailey comes up. Does anyone know if he is an owner or if he would know anything about the store and how to get our money? more

FRAUD!!!!!! 7/12/2011

After trying numerous times to contact by telephone and going to the location. I finally called the Orem City business department. They have been recieving calls regarding this location and company, the women I spoke with said the owner is having financial difficulties and is trying to secure enough money to open back up in the fall. BS!!! thats what I say. He knew he was running out of money and took our books to sell or whatever to cover his expenses. So with that being said I asked her what we should do, file small claims aganist him, was the advice that I was given. Please feel free to contact the Orem City Business department and express your concerns, grief, irritations, anything to let them know their students are upset. We make up a good portions of Orem'S community if not MOST of it!!! WE SHOULD NOT BE TREATED THIS WAY!!!!! more

Fraud! Fraud! Fraud! 7/5/2011

Beat the Bookstore is a fraudulent business. I sold them my book in April 26th. They told me to come back in 30 days to get cash since I didn't have the need for in store credit. On the 26th of May, I showed up at the place only to find a note saying ""we will be close until Tuesday for Memorial Day"" Well, guess what Folks, we are in July now and the note is still there, no answer on the phone, and the business is close. Worst place to do business with. DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOK TO THEM!!! more

Who buys your books, says wait 30 days and then closes for the summer and does not tell you that they are doing this? Beat the Bookstore does!!! And for any one that cares the owner is John Gailey. FU John your a crook and a predator to poor college students. Karma is a btch. more

Dishonest - Bad Service - Should be Shut Down 6/1/2011

I went in to sell my books to their store. After they took the books, they explained they would give me store credit or I could come back in 30 days to collect my cash. They only told me this AFTER they took my books, and they wouldn't give my books back. I needed the cash that day, and was prepared to take my books elsewhere, but they wouldn't let me have them back. Then they told me to come back in 30 days to pick up my money. On the exact day they told me to come back, they had closed shop for the summer. They should have told me it would take 5 months before they would reopen. Horrible people. Dishonest. I hope the BBB closes them soon. Don't go there. They're the worst. more

WORST SERVICE 4/6/2011

In the month of February, I sold my books for almost $80. They told me to come back in 30 days to claim the money. I come back and they shut down for the month of March. It is now April, and they are STILL closed. I needed that money for financial reasons. They need to figure it out or they're going to hear it from A LOT of customers!!!!!!!!! Open back up, and pay your customers back! or don't make that offer at all!!!! more

Unprofessional Liar running the place! 6/28/2010

So the first few times I went into Beat the Bookstore, I found that more than half of the books that I needed were actually cheaper elsewhere. After giving them a few chances, I found that when it came time to sell my books back that I received on average, 10% more from the UVU Bookstore. Most recently, I bought a Fifth Edition of The Cosmic Perspective at Beat the Bookstore back in May. I was persuaded by the employees to buy that particular edition, as it was the same as the one currently being used in Astronomy classes. I was told by Beat the Bookstore that they would buy my book back at the end of the block without any problems and to bring it back and they would take care of me. Well, 7 weeks later (after spending $70 on the book, when i should have found it on KSL.for $40), I brought the book back to trade in for a book to be used this block. The owner refused to buy it back, even after I told him that 7 weeks earlier they told me that they would. After going back and forth, I said to him that he will not receive my business ever again and he shrugged his shoulders and said ""whatever,"" I worked in customer service for 7 years and I never once said anything like that to a paying customer! So basically they talked me into buying a book that they new full well that they would not buy back and deceived me into believing that I could trust that they would honor they're word. I guess that I know for future reference that Beat the Bookstore does not honor they're word and therefore, runs a dishonest operation and the owner seems to be cool with that. Take my advise and go to the College store, Ksl., amazon, or anywhere else besides Beat the Bookstore Cons: Books are more expensive than even the Bookstore. more

No money 6/8/2009

I went in to sell my back after this semester and they explained their buy back policy. At first I was upset but then they told me I could buy my books with the in store credit and it would cut out my taxes but it would only apply if I had more than the amount and only save about a dollar or so. Well I went in about last week to cash out instead and they told me they were out of funds!! Wtf? They don't have money to pay their customers which they owe? Don't come here, they won't give you your money Pros: not too much Cons: Buyback and LACK OF FUNDS!! more

Beat The Book store: THUMBS DOWN 2/10/2009

I had to switch math classes after a month of attending one. Well so now I need a different book and I have called that store I swear 100 times in one day to see if I can trade books. There NEVER is an answer!!! I don't have time to leave work and run down there to check. I mean what if they won't it would be nice if they would just answer the phone! Cons: Customer Service more

Amazing prices! 12/18/2008

I went into the bookstore not knowing what to expect but the company name explains it all. Beat the Bookstore really does beat UVU bookstore. I brought my books in and they bought it for 15 dollars more than UVU and when I bought a math book it was around $20 cheaper too. I personally will continue to go back and one employee, Jesse was very personable and eager to help. My recommendations are to go to this place! Pros: Buy back for more and sell for less :) more
