My experience at Battiste & Dupree included both mediocre and very good food.
The fried dill pickles, jambalaya and bananas foster rum cake were all unremarkable.
The catfish Acadian was very good. Because fried food is so rarely done well, it's nice to have a restaurant that does it properly. Catfish Acadian are fillets fried and topped with shrimp etouffee. The breading was light and flavorful and the fish was moist. My companion enjoyed the barbecue chicken tenders and I can confirm that they looked and smelled delicious.
Battiste & Dupree is in a small strip mall with a large window facing the parking lot. It has very few tables that seem to be largely ignored in favor of take out.
The owner, host and chef is wonderfully gracious. He's spontaneously helpful. He's informative. He's friendly.
I'm looking forward to returning to try the chicken tenders and the fried chicken. Whether or not Battiste & Dupree will become a regular visit will depend on whether I can find a more quality items besides the fried food on their small menu.
