Basement Bar & Lounge

Well i read a few reviews and its sucks that they didnt have fun but owell, me and da hubby went to the basement a year ago and ahd a wonderful time the place was live and had a good group of ppl there the bertenders where flirty but then thats always fun to have around lol...i enjoyed the black lite room the drinks were at resonable price...My husband cant quit talken bout it to his friends on how he had a good time at the basement and he wants to go there again, so im looken forward to my next vist hope its fun like the last time...One thing tht can be done to make it better clean the rest room lol.. but all in all its a good place to go and have drinks especially if ur not a dancer like me lol... Do you remember heading over to your friends house hanging out in their garage or basement and playing pool, watching tv, jamming out, and drinking a few. Just hanging out remenising on the weekdays horrible or exciting events. Well thats what The Basement is, its not a fancy bar or club. Its just somewhere to go kick back and have a few drinks. The name fits it perfectly. If you thought anything else when walking into a place called the basement sorry for your disappointment. I enjoy it. It a good place to go have a few drinks play pool and chit-chat with your friends. No BIG crowds. Inexpensive drinks. A little dirty but what do you expect in a basement!! I can totally believe the bad reviews below for this place. It is a poorly designed bar. They will have some cheaper drinks than the touristy bars but that attracts the emotionally weak eliment that would bring about fighting etc. The bartenders do neglect customers to talk to the girls at the bar, but geez, there were only a few girls there and they all looked like dirty skanks! I would call this place a dive bar, but the DJ music keeps me from doing so. Maybe it's a dive club?? \r \r It is dirty, smokey, and if you are white they will treat you poorly. (hard to get a drink, not friendly, generally unwelcome) \r \r This is a place where some of the ""riverrats"" (local employees of riverwalk) will go late after work for the cheaper drinks. Usually thats my kind of place. But this one is not worth your time. Just spend an extra buck and drink at a safer, cleaner bar in the area.\r \r Someone could fix this place up, play some quality music, and have a cool basement bar in SA but for now, it is simply ghet-tow. I am shocked at the reviews read I have been going to this establishment for three years, we have never heard any negative issues but I can say if you are drunk and being confrontational they will hall your butt out of there. I have met and talked with the owners they are extremely nice! The idiots who have rated this bar must have been cut off or thrown out, and good for the basement. We love this bar and its staff . we had been to several bars through downtown on friday night and the basement came highly reccommended... the music was ok... too much micheal jackson... and the club side was way too hot, a regular occurence as we found out from a regular. Our biggest coplaint were that the bartenders seemed more occupied with some of the ladies sitting at the bar than the 20 patrons waitin for drinks. and too top it off, one of the bartenders began to flirt with one of my friends only to become a total rude person to her when she wasnt receptive to his advances. its funny cause after we went up to order from the nicer of the three, i overheard the same bartender asking another girl why she wouldnt go home with him, while there were still many patrons waitin for drinks. The bar is very nice looking and atmosphere was great, but ultimately i was there to spend my money, and its a shame that a couple of bad apples had to ruin our impression. \r although we would like to return someday, since some of our friends are downtown residents, we would be more likely to go to other places where the exchange of money for goods is a more important practice than getting an after hours rendezvous. I must say that this was the worst experience I?ve ever had at a bar or any establishment for that matter. I recommend you do not go unless you want to be physically attacked like my husband and I were. The night started out fine we were at Coyote Ugly and our group of 15 were having a great time but then one of our friends said we should go to the basement where drinks would be cheaper. So we all headed down to the basement and once down there, some of us (4 or 5) decided to dance a little on what appeared to be a dance floor. We were having a good time until one of our friends tripped on an extension cord and fell. They told her that she would have to leave because she was intoxicated. She wanted to take off anyway so the rest of us stayed and tried to have a good time. Then another bouncer came up to us and told a friend that he needed to ?calm down? while dancing, strange request we thought but he danced ""calmer"" after that. Then about 20min later the bouncer came back up to us and said that we needed to stop dancing because some of the men (who were tall) were hitting the ceiling. I asked the bouncer why we couldn?t continue dancing and he said that it wasn?t the dance floor any longer and that they were just being nice by letting us dance there. Then he told me that they moved the dance floor to the back. So, a friend of ours who was dancing said ""lets go dance in the back"". As we were walking to the ?dance floor? I said to my husband and to him alone ?this bar s*cks? and it just so happened that the bouncer was a couple feet away and overheard me. He called me to him and said ?What did you say?? and I said ?What? I was speaking to my husband.? the bouncer said ?What did you say?? And then I said ?I told him that this bar s*cks? the bouncer then told me ?You better watch it? then I said ?What? I?m sorry but I can say whatever I want to my husband that?s a right I have?freedom of speech? then I walked away to continue to the back of the bar with my friends. more

We started to walk to the back of the room the same bouncer & 3 others surrounded us and told my husband ?You need to leave right now!? My husband asked ?Why, what?s wrong?? and then the bouncer said ?It doesn?t matter I?m telling you to leave? and then I said ?We haven?t done anything why do we have to leave?? They told me to ?Shut Up!? and then told him ?I?m telling you to leave right now out that back door? then he said ?Fine but I need my credit card that is at the bar, let me close my tab? they then said ?No, you are not getting anything you are leaving? I couldn?t believe it and said ?we will leave but we have to have our credit card, that?s how we are paying to go home? and all of a sudden 4 guys picked my husband up and started to carry him out the back door?then I got picked up and I could not see by who. The men who had me grabbed my breast and were touching my upper thighs. I was so scared and was struggling to get free. I fought lose and saw my husband being surrounded by 5 guys while he lay on the ground. I was crying and yelling at them to leave him alone when one of the men when one of them told my husband ?You need to get your *unt on a leash? my husband got up and said ?Don?t talk about my wife like that? and took one step in the guys direction when all of them jumped on him. One of them was choking him while two others held both of his arms. I started screaming for help and then soon a cop showed up but not before the guy choked my husband until he threw up all over him. Then more cops showed up all of them on bikes. I was crying and upset and tried to see if my husband was ok. The cops gathered around me and told me to stop and wouldn?t let me see if he were alright. And told us we needed to shut up. I couldn?t believe it when I saw that the cops were shaking hands and giving daps to the bouncers. When I asked to tell what happened the cops did not want to hear what we had to say?they told me because the bouncers called that we were in the wrong. more

The best thing about the Basement is it's one of the only bars in San Antonio in the basement. It's fun to take someone who is unfirmilar with down town to this happening spot. They have great big screen tv's and plenty of relaxing couches around the pool tables. My only complaint is the juke box is one of those electronic downloading kinds, which is not as much fun as the old timey juke boxes. Pros: It's in the basement Cons: It's in the basement more
