Good and Bad 7/22/2003

Barneys is great for young and innovative fashion. Even if you are into older, more established labels, the buyer seems to lean towards the brighter and/or edgy pieces. The house brand is great. It has maintained season after season of wearable and well made clothing. It's more conservative, but always classic. The bad things about Barneys: saleswomen in Jewelry are comatosed and not very friendly. The younger floors are always messy, esp the jeans area. more

Top Shop 6/19/2003

I love clothes, I love NYC and I love shopping and Barneys is my top destination for menswear, accessories, womenswear and gifts. For years, the buyers at Barneys have managed to put together exquisitely selected collections of formal, informal and sports clothing, shoes, skincare, scents, etc. The layout of the store is simple, clean and easy to navigate. The sales staff is usually very helpful, but you rarely get the hard sell here, only helpful advise. Sales are very regular and I have found many great bargains here. Barney's Co-op range is affordable and incredibly well made and fashionable. I just wish they never closed their original store in Chelsea. Pros: selection, staff, sales more

Could do with more ranges 4/7/2003

I've just had my first visit to Barneys, the staff were friendly and helpfull. It's pricey, but I expect that for top end clothes. The only downside was that there wasn't much range in the co-op menswear bit. Other than that I can't fault it. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Not much range more

Not so great 12/28/2002

It's a little mind boggling how they organize the men's department. Some designers deserve the amount of space they have, because of the vast selection of merchandise they offer. Others simply waste the vast amount of space they're given. The sales staff varies a great deal as well. Honourable mentions go towards the third and fourth floors for service and actually greeting you as you browse. The others don't seem to give a damn. And for a luxury department store, you'd think they'd have better fitting rooms than frayed floor coverings. Pros: Designers, Location Cons: Service, Selection more

Good selection of quality designer duds 12/27/2002

Barney's is one of my regular stops whenever I'm clothes shopping. I've never had any problems with the staff there, as others alluded to. Their Co-op shop features some pretty cool, cutting edge unknown designers. While much of their lingerie dept. is just ""OK"", I am always able to find a few pieces there that are stunningly beautiful, and nothing like what you'd find at Victoria's S.!! And of course Barney's has a good variety of women's clothes, like Yamahmoto, Jill Sander, Branquinho, etc. Their jewelry and hat departments I don't find to be all that ""original"". You can find more unique accessories elsewhere. They have a pretty good range of high quality shoes though. Just don't let all the ""posers"" (with their cell phones and their lapdogs) get to you too much! Pros: lingerie dept, shoe dept., variety of designers Cons: prices, "posers" in the store more

This store is a joke 12/7/2002

Barneys used to be cool when they had the old store on 17th St. Now you go in the one uptown and you can't even find merchandise worth buying. There's no selection and the store is usually empty except for weekend afternoons. The salespeople in the men's department leave are no help at all, especially on the 5th floor. If they hate their job that much, why don't they just quit? Pros: atmosphere, location Cons: bad service, no selection, no customers more

Barneys for minimalists 11/12/2002

I kept asking myself, where is the rest of the merchandise? Most of the floors of women's clothing were very sparse. The men's store seemed to have more merchandise on one floor than the women's store on mulitple floors. The cosmetic department was almost a joke. I heard that it was a wonderful mecca, boy were they wrong! The service in the handbag department was great, very friendly and accomodating, can't say enough wonderful things about the man who helped me. My only complaint about service is in the shoe department on the third floor. They were not nearly as friendly as other salespeople I encountered and almost seemed to shoo (pardon the pun) me away when I asked a question. Not a great way to get a customer to come back. I will go elsewhere for shoes and most likely get a better selection. Pros: handbag dept service! Cons: shoe dept service!, tiny cosmetics area more

Can't be beat! 8/21/2002

By FAR the BEST store in NYC. Whether you're looking for perfume, jeans, or lingerie...Barneys has the best from around the world! more

Barneys for those who love to shop 8/20/2002

If you are a woman, don't miss Barney's in midtown. The selection is great and after you learn the layout, the shopping is fun and easy. Shoes on both floors are nice and the new make-up section is beautiful. If you are a man, the wharehouse sale is worth it. Great suits at great prices...but females BEWARE! If you take anything off to try something else on, your own garments will be swiped by the gorilla-tactic shoppers! The wharehouse makes paying full price a pleasure for woman! Don't miss the french fries at Fred's while you are there! Pros: Shoe selection, Jeans selection, Make-up more

Suits with an attitude 6/5/2002

I really don't like Barney's, or I should say this uptown Barney's The place has a offputting ambiance. Some of the sales people have supercilious attitudes. The selection is fine, nothing special. more
