Barnes & Noble

This one is pretty big; all the ones in Manhattan are big, so no surprise. B and N is more expensive than Strand's but the selection is equally good. They have many different copies of books you might need, so there's variety. However, they don't have a lot of sales. The only one I can recall is the winter holidays sale. Good selection of calendars. But I come here mostly for new art books- great selection. more

I like Strand's more than Barnes and Noble because there're just way too many bargains at Strand's...but Barnes and Noble carries such smooth, clean, sexy books. I love the Barnes and Noble classics. They feature classics with new commentaries and awesome covers. But B and N can be a bit more expensive than other nyc bookstores; retail prices. They do however have neat sales around the holiday season. more

You're sure to find just about any book you need at B&N. They carry all of the best sellers and mainstream books in a very nice environment. The best part about B&N is that they allow you to sit around and read their books or just hang out for a couple of hours. They often have discounts on certain books, so it's possible to save money by shopping here. more

I know that people are tired of conglomerates taking over like Starbucks and B&N, but I love both especially when they're in one place! The Union Square Barnes and Noble is by far my favorite one. It's very large, multi-levels and has a large reading/coffee area that sometimes resembles a singles scene (without the alcohol). This store is a great place to spend an afternoon perusing books, magazines, music and movies. I love to grab a few books and magazines, get my coffee and sit for hours enjoying every moment. The very best seats are located near the windows providing a fantastic view of the park and the bustling neighborhood. Also, most of the hip writers come to this location to speak, discuss and sign their books .Always look forward to seeing nutty yet witty Sedaris. Good sales on new books too. All in all, a great store with rewarding experiences. more

This barnes and noble is a great bookstore. My college does not have a bookstore and buying books online can sometimes be a challenge. You always will have a question like, if it says in good condition does that mean the bird used it or not? With Barnes and Noble bookstore you can go right in and look at the book yourself, no more wondering what condtion or how the book looks like anymore. The best part though is that you can buy good books at great secondhand prices. Good books, great prices, definitly a great place to do some shopping. more

I'm a student and need to buy books, but colleges make you buy their books with almost always cost $20-40 MORE than they do at this store, so I always shop here for my books. Customer service is very friendly and helpful, when they're not busy. Store design is pretty well done, easy to find your way around and find exactly what you're looking for. All of their books are the LATEST edition which helps ALOT. more

I cant go here when I have no money All those books one for every mood your in!! Sales help is mostly nice and helpful and the reduced books are a real bargain. They have poets come in to read, and other activities, and they make the best coffee more

Whether shopping in the retail store, or on-line, Barnes and Noble is sure to have what you are looking for. If they don't have it 'new', then they will offer a number of dealers in out of print versions that you can visit, and they even provide the links. For current fiction and non-fiction, this is the place to go. If you need to return, just keep your receipts, and they won't give you any problem. more

This is one of my favorite Barnes & Noble book stores. It is a large, multi level store with a great selection of a wide variety of books and magazines. I don't like that the cafe is located on the very top level, but they do have a great range of magazines there so it is worth the trip. The bathrooms are always kept very clean. The bargain books section is pretty big but it is kept hidden on an upper level. This is a great place to browse. The prices are not cheap, though. more

The Barnes & Noble on Broadway and 67th St. has the largest magazine room I have ever seen (takes up then entire fourth floor), and it is attached to a coffee bar. You can grab a cup of coffee or tea (plus a million decadent desserts) and find your favorite magazines--settle into a chair, throw the magazines on the table and dig in. Sure, I guess B&N would prefer you to buy before you browse, but it doesn't seem to stop the hundred or so people who are doing the same thing at any given time. It is a great way to spend a rainy afternoon or kill an hour while waiting for a movie to start at one of the nearby movie theaters. Enjoy! more
