Baja's Mexican Restaurant

I visited today because a friend told me they had a great veggie quesadilla. I swear as soon as i walked in I knew this was a mistake. The place looks like crap, the waitresses weren't very nice, the menus looked like they had cigarette tar on them, and we were given cold chips without any explaination of the salsa bar. The food was ok, but had cold spots in it. I wouldn't suggest this place unless you plan on drinking a lot before you eat. more

Baja has been our favorite restaurant for about 10 years. The food is great, service excellent & prices are very reasonable. In the summer of 2008, they added a 15th anniversary menu with a great selection of more upscale authentic Mexican dishes. The mahi mahi is excellent, as is the shrimp Baja with avacodo. But my ""regular"" dish is the pork burrito, with pork marinated & cooked for over 6 hours--excellent!!! And they have a great salsa bar with at least 7 salsas, spicy seasoned carrots & limes. I went there a couple of weeks ago for dinner with my girlfriend. We had nachos with everything for an appetizer and burritos and enchiladas for the meal. The nachos were above par but we didn't like the meals. Last night we ordered take out and it was terrible. We got home and realized they got every piece of our order wrong. They even added a meal we didn't order. Everything was squashed because they put the food between two paper-plates. I have no doubt that this may be authentic for some people.( believe me, you do not want to know how they prepare food in mexico). I wasn't expecting sushi at Nobu, but at the end of the night I felt like i had been robbed. more

I can remember Baja's first days, when the restaurant was less than half its current size, the food was serve on paper plates and the menu was much shorter. Since then the restaurant has increased in size but has never lost there fantastic passion for their food. Their Carne Asada (in each way it appears on the menu) is absolutely fantastic. They truly marinate the beef all day long and take no shortcuts with it. Don't be fooled by other restaurants touting their food as carne asada. I've eaten at a dozen different Mexican restaurants and nothing can even hold a candle to Senor Roberto's. Every dish I have ever had there (50-plus visits) has been spectacular. The service is friendly, the portions are generous and they make a solid margarita. The shrimp ceviche and the nachos are exquisite appetizers sure to leave your stomach happy. I've unfortunately moved farther away, but it is still worth the drive every single time. Buen Provecho! more
