Renewed love for this place! 1/26/2011

Thanks to chef/owner Angeline, Odell, Cathy and Rachel for a wonderful evening! Our group of 34 enjoyed great food and service with wonderful ambience. Cathy was very accommodating - we reserved the entire restaurant, ordered off the full menu, and had separate checks. Knowing how many to expect, the tables were set to perfectly accommodate our group - including baskets of fresh bread, tall glasses of ice water, and wine glasses for the wine we brought. The fireplace was lit, as were tiny winter lights on the mantle and oil lights on each table. It was intimate so although we were a large group we felt like we could mingle and share this lovely evening together. Some of us had calamari, which was fantastic - not breaded and very tender; others had the bisque and said it was excellent. Our entrees varied from tuna (my favorite), tilapia, baked/stuffed salmon, salmon in phyllo, crab cakes, coconut shrimp, seafood special, to pasta, duck, steak, and osso bucco - everything was prepared as requested (from very rare to well done), hot and delicious. We won't hesitate to return as a group or in smaller parties - especially when we know Angeline is in the kitchen :) more

Nice atmosphere, decent food, but EXPECT A LONG WAIT for your meal. 8/17/2008

Would love to give this place a better recommendation, but the service was painfully slow -- took nearly 45 minutes just to get a round of water. Orders were mixed up, and after a while it wasn't even worth trying to get them right. The same one or two people working seemed to be doing everything from taking orders to busing all the tables. Fortunately, we weren't starving and it was a beautiful day. Otherwise, waiting well over an hour for our meal would have been unacceptable. Once it arrived, it was fine fare for the price. Pros: atmosphere Cons: service more

alright food with not enough staff 6/22/2008

My wife and I had dinner and they were WAY understaffed on a Saturday night. They had a really nice college waitress that was new but totally overwelmed with the amount of people they had on a Saturday night. They only had two waitresses and people around us were walking out because they waited over half hour before someone came to there table. I think given more help this would be a fantastic place to eat. However due to the lack of staff it makes for a long dinner asking for things to be brought out to your table. Pros: Good food when it came out Cons: lack of staff more

Sensational experience 3/11/2008

the back porch cafe takes pride in all they do their food is cooked with taste and from the soul everything is prepared fresh every day you taste the freshness and you can just tell the crab bisque soup is to die for as is the skinney chicken so many places have raised their prices while back porch has kept them the same thank you back porch we will always be back five stars more

Perfect for a date! 2/15/2008

My wife and I try to visit this nice little cafe for dinner at least 2 ? 3 times a year. I was shocked to read some of the poor reviews, because we have had nothing but pleasant times and above average food. I usually get the fillet, which is a good ? great cut of steak and a good size. My wife switches it up every time, but had never had a complaint. The service is above average and the atmosphere is cozy, quiet, and superb for a nice little date in skippack. We will be going again tomorrow night for our valentine?s day dinner ( I?m accountant in the middle of busy season ? so mid-week valentine?s celebrations don?t work). If my opinion changes, I?ll be sure to repost, but I have no reason to believe that it will. Pros: Quality food, atmosphere, service Cons: Slightly pricey more

The food is mediocre with 5 star prices. I agree the atmosphere is charming, however our food was overcooked and lacked flavor. We decided to go elsewhere for dessert to avoid further dissapointment. Definitely not worth the money. I do not mind paying a lot for a good meal so long as the quality is good, but I could have gotten a better filet at a chain restaurant for half the price! We will not go back again since the reviews are mixed and we had a sub par experience. Too many good restaurants and so little time. Pros: Quaint Atmosphere Cons: Average service, poor food quality, overpriced more

Great Find 1/10/2008

We moved out of the area 6 years ago, and only get to come back around the holidays to visit with family. We had some extra time this trip and decided to go shopping in the Skippack Village. We noticed this cute cafe and decided to have lunch there. Besides the cozy, rustic atmosphere and the great service, it was one of the best lunches we have had dining out in a long time. Between the 3 of us, we had stew, grilled cheese, and soup. All the ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. The soup was exactly like ""moms"", and the stew was hearty and filling, and the grilled cheese was amazing. I know what you are thinking amazing grilled cheese??? It was definitely the bread they used. I asked the waitress if they made the bread there b/c I wanted to take a loaf back home to Buffalo with us. But she informed us the bread was freshly delivered everyday from an Italian bakery out of Collegeville. The comfort food was perfect for the weather that day. I can't wait till next year, the Back Porch is on the top of our list to return to. Pros: Thumbs up! more

Under cooked and over priced 12/2/2007

The charm of this restaurant does not match the quality of food provided. I went with my Husband and parents we were the only other couple in the restaurant on a rainy Sunday night. We all ordered different things some based on the reccomendation of the waitress who was very plesant and accomdating. The salads were fine, and we also started with the crab bisque which had great fresh lumps of crab meat in it but the base was over spiced and overall not very good. I got the chicken portabello which had several peices of chicken with portabello mushrooms and roasted red peppers. The top peice of my chicken was raw in the middle and had to be sent back. She offered me something else off the menu but since no one else at the table liked their meal either I opted for another practically stale roll instead. My husband also couldn't finish his filet because it too was practically uncooked in the middle even though he ordered medium. All of this could have been slighlty better with the right amount of customer service. However the owner stayed behind the counter the entire time and didn't even come out to apologize for my raw chicken. I was offered a complimentry desert by the waitress and enjoyed the volcano cake very much. All in all the meal for 4 still came to $135.00 without my $22.95 meal and desert so defintely not worth the cost for the quality. Pros: Setting, Location, Ambience, Cons: Food quaility, overspiced, overpriced more

Excellent Lunch Alfresco 10/3/2006

Excellent little place sufficiently displaced from Skippack Pike to be peaceful. I ordered the lunch special Soup and Salad Combination. The full bowl of Crab Bisque was simply phenomenal, with large pieces of lump crabmeat. The half turkey club was well intentioned with tasty bacon and fresh crusty white bread. My only disappointment was the turkey slices had more a luncheon meat consistency rather than a fresh roast turkey texture that any diner worth its salt would make use of. A small side salad with feta and caesar/basalmic dressing complemented the other two. All served on stylish plates with fresh brewed iced tea h i t the spot."" The 13.95 price ""h i t the wallet"" a little harder than I was expecting, but I will definitely return...most of their lunch items are 7-10 bucks. Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Food Cons: Pricey more

Exceptional Charm 7/31/2005

This quaint and charming little cafe is nestled in between shops and other similar food establishments in the little town of Skippack. I have dined here on a number of occassions for business and pleasure and have always received excellent service and exceptional food. The menu is diverse with taste combinations that are creative and appealing. The staff is well-versed in the menu options, daily specials and the chef's ability to make changes to any order. The staff prides themselves on personal service and their relationship with their customers. The indoor decor is a conversation peice, and the outside dining is delightful on a summer's afternoon or evening. The Back Poarch is more than a ""cafe"" - it's an experience. One that I recommend that you embark upon just as soon as you can! Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Staff, Great Ambiance Cons: Minimal Parking more

disappointed 11/10/2004

I had heard wonderful things about both food quality and environment at the Back Porch Cafe. However, after a very disappointing meal, I would not recommend this restaurant. Our meal was rushed, as we had not yet finished our appetizer course when our main course arrived. The food temperature and quality were sub par, and far overpriced considering. In addition, we were able to hear the chef reprimanding her staff through our entire first course. We love Skippack Village, but will not be returning to the Back Porch Cafe. Pros: cozy Cons: , price, rushed more
