Best lasagna ever!! 11/12/2008

I had the Chicken Mollica & it was "to die 4" I wanted 2 lick the plate. My daughter had the lasagna & said it was the best she's ever eaten! The house salad was wonderful & the bread that is served was very good. It had a hint of spicyness. I don't understand why all the others on this site had such a negative comment. My only thought is that they must have eaten a zinc lozenge before dining!! I can't comment on the cost of the meals, as we were guest of our Church. I would definately dine at Azzarelli's again. As for as "what do expect of a restaurant in Katy" Wow, what a snid remark that is! Pros: the food was excellent Cons: Very open dining area, needs more seclusion more

The service was horrible. The food was so-so (at best) but definitely NOT worth the $$$. This was our first time there. We were with another couple who insisted on going there. Since they were locked out of the Memorial location for not paying rent, we had to go to the Katy location. BIG mistake. I've never liked the place anyway but thought, hey, since they moved, let's try it again - maybe it's better now. NOT. I'll never eat at Azzarelli's again - EVER. Pros: Close to my home! Cons: Bad service, bad food, not worth the $$$. more

Not worth it 8/3/2008

We went on a Sunday night so the restaurant was pretty empty. Our waitress came right away and opened and handed us our napkins (which immediately made me think "Oh, this is supposed to be fine dining."), then she told us the specials (which seemed like Italian fusion because there were a lot of unusual ingredients in the sauces, but that was also ok because I thought it must be upscale and contemporary). The waitress was very friendly and attentive, but the food was atrocious. I can be snobby--I mean I love my upscale, fine dining--but I'm also perfectly happy with some down-home, inexpensive, traditional Italian. Well, this was neither. Azzarelli's clearly would like to be upscale, and it prices it's menu accordingly, but the food falls far short. It wasn't even good by inexpensive, down-home standards. We ordered mussels as an appetizer. They were fishy and overcooked, and the sauce was salty and unremarkable. My brother ordered a penne pasta dish (can't remember which one exactly) whose sauce actually tasted like caramel--our waitress even admitted this, although she claimed she loved it. My pizza was anything but crisp. The crust was lousy--like a store-bought, make-your-own-pizza crust--and the entire thing was awash in liquidy cheese--I don't even know how you make cheese that soupy! The whole thing was barely edible, especially in the center where it was completely soggy, not to mention flavorless. How do you mess up a Margherita pizza?! It doesn't get more basic than that. I suppose I shouldn't have expected much from a restaurant in Katy, but this was ridiculous. Definitely do not waste your money here. It's totally not worth it. Go to Berryhill's next door or something--they have consistently good and affordable food. more

Terrible service and food 7/14/2008

We hadn't gone out in ages and decided we wanted a great Italian meal. We had gone to Azarelli's once before and we're crazy about it, but we decided to give it another chance. We went on a Thursday night and the place was almost deserted. It took a long time to get our waitress to take our order. But we had to ask for bread and get refills on our drinks. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. I ordered the veal with a light lemon butter sauce and my husband ordered their chicken with dried tomatoes, goat cheese and a balsamic vinegrette sauce. My meal was inedible. The veal was as tough as shoe leather....it was heavily breaded and must have been prepared days before. My husband's meal was so tart and the chicken so dried out, that he barely ate it. And this isn't a cheap restaurant! When our waitress finally came back to the table, I told her that the food was awful and the service was atrocious. She never asked what was wrong or even cared that we left practically all the food on our plates. Obviously, she didn't get a tip. Please don't bother going there. It's a waste of your money. Pros: Not any that I can think of Cons: Awful food and terrible service more

My husband and I just returned from the Katy Azzarelli's. We went out to eat for his birthday, and we were hoping to finally find a nice Italian food place out here in Katy. We went on a Sunday night, and it wasn't very crowded, so that was nice. Should've noticed there would be a problem when the waitress didn't come ask for our drinks for 10-15 minutes. Noticed during our long wait that she was also waiting on a table at the complete opposite end of the restaurant. She came to our table maybe 3 times the whole time we were there, and that was only to bring food or ask us what we'd like. She gave us the wrong wine (of course what she gave us was more expensive than what we ordered!), and gave us the wrong dessert. We ordered the dessert trio with tiramisu (husband said it was just ok), flourless chocolate cake (way too rich, and I love chocolate), and the cheesecake. Low and behold, we didn't get cheesecake but Italian wedding cake. Maybe she would've remembered the wine and dessert had she written anything down, but she didn't. When she brought us the check, she noticed that we had barely touched the dessert. She asked if everything was ok, and we asked her if what we had was cheesecake. She said, "No it's the wedding cake; did you want cheesecake?" Hmmm, yes, that is why we asked for it! Never apologized for the mistake, still charged us for the wrong wine and wrong dessert. As my husband said, I'm not impressed that she tried to memorize our order considering that she didn't do a very good job of it. All in all, won't be going back. I had the snapper that was pretty good, and my husband had the fettucine. He says that my homemade fettucine was much better. Guess I'll keep him! Pros: Good location Cons: Service more

Only 2 weekends ago my husband, daughter and I went to try out Azzarelli's. What a disappointment!!! While there were still several tables open they tried to seat us in the traffic area near the kitchen. We asked to be seated in an open booth (set for 4) when the hostess gave us a snippy answer about the booth being reserved for parties of 5 and up. I asked her how they would fit 5 people or more on that table and also pointed out another booth with only a couple sitting there (obviously they were able to seat 2 people at booth's, too). Without any further explanation she seated us at a table in the middle. It took our waiter forever to take our drink orders, deliver the drinks, take the food order, etc. The waiter rattled down the specials, one of which was Seabass with sides. I ordered it, we finally paid (2 hrs after entering the restaurant) and were surprised to see a $32 pricetag attached to the Seabass. The food was great, no questions asked, but their prices comparable to the Capital Grille, which is not justified, as the service sucked, the ambience wasn't there, the interior looks more like a modern bistro than a fine restaurant. All in all we were disappointed and will not go back there. Pros: Location Cons: Price, Service, Ambience, Interior more

My family and I tried this restaurant a few months ago when it first opened. The food was too salty and the service poor. We thought we'd give it another try after some time had passed to see if they had worked out the kinks. On the second visit the waiter was so rude that we got up and left in the middle of trying to place our order. I've not heard of a good experience from anyone who has been there. Ther are a lot better Italiand food options nearby. Cons: rude wait staff, salty food, very limited parking nearby, expensive for what you get more
