Avoid this Doctor. I agree 100% with the 2 negative reviews. When you are in such pain you go with anything and you trust this ""supposed"" expert. On the first visits he told me I did not need surgery, that I would benefit from his ""treatment""...after 6 months and $5000 he recommended a surgeon.... Save yourself the money and \r the bad experience of being taken as a fool. Doctors like this one should have their license cancelled. more

Excellent Treatment 3/16/2012

My experience with Dr. Auvenshine was wonderful!!!! I had been suffering from TMJ for quite some time. Cartlidge was completely gone on one side. I couldn't even eat salads, not enough strength in my jaw to chew lettuce. After exercises and treatment including a very specially designed appliance, I was so much better, I felt like I had my life back. That was over 10 years ago. I still use the appliance at night when I sleep and go for a followup visit every so often. I am pain free most of the time!! I could not be more happy and satisfied with my result. I would highly recommend!!!! Thank you Dr. A!!!! more

Absolutely the Best for TMJ Treatment 1/12/2012

The two negative reviews do not at all reflect the experience that I have had with Dr. Auvenshine and his staff. Dr. Auvenshine is compassionate, kind and gentle. And Lisa, is this the same Lisa? Nothing could be farther from the truth. One day when I was having much pain in my jaw (due to lengthy, improper posture in front of the computer), I called their office and the nurse managed to get me in the next day. I waited about 10 or 15 minutes and received great care and attention from all of his staff, including Lisa and Dr. Auvenshine. Through exercises, education, and a very effectively crafted mouthguard, he helps you manage your TMJ so you don’t have to keep going back to him. Other dentists may charge less, but from my experience, their success rate is not as effective. And why would anybody go through 13 mouthguards? more

Unsympathetic In All Aspects 10/15/2009

Dr Auvenshine is said to be on of the be in Houston. Maybe, but the personality skills and compassion lack tremedously. His nurses are surely the same. I have been suffering from chronic tmj for so long now im not sure exactly when it occured. I have traveled many hours and even to different states in search of a little relief. I have had 13 mouth pieces now i believe im starting a persona collection. The nurse, well the main nurse, Lisa, is terribly rude with an attitude that had me in tears. The little time i saw the dr he could care less and i was moved through like cattle. Of course many in pain know going through something none stop is terrible in it self but to have the person that is supposed to be helping looking like nothing you say is believable is unimaginable. His office pychological evaluation, which is an hour of bubbling in answers. I recently requested my evaluation/medical records from him and i was in horror. Its a computer interpretation of your answers. According to it I was suicidal, depressive disorder, trouble married life and family life, and i could be a problem patient for my other physcians that I might see and that he needed to talk to my family about more support. I was appauled. I started crying. I couldnt believe this is what i paid 6000 dollars for....a computer generated evaluation and a dr and staff attitude based on it. I am in no means suicidal. I had a wonderful child I wouldnt dare leave and I have a very close family. My mom and sisters are my best friends. I couldnt have asked for a better life. The only time I have had problems is when my jaw popped out of wack. I have ligament damage, disc damage, headaches constantly to the point of throwing up, loss of hearing, lack of blood flow and now im damaging my teeth. Ill admit when I talk about the things I go through I start to cry. Its hard and tiresome to even talk about. but to read his evaluation, this 2 bit question aire that he makes you take on the first visit and not an evaluation on you....was disheartening. Ive loved my past drs dearly, and even though they couldnt help and I was passed on I would call them and email them today to say hi and im doing ok. Ive been through so much and to read his evaluation just sickens me. He was a waste of time and energy, and no he is not worth the tears I cried after reading his so called evaluation. Some two bit bubble test created a profile of me so that he could treat me a certain way. Its been hard to prove what Im going through but I never give up on help. My family has been wonderfully supportive and help me all the time and for his test to say otherwise is uncalled for. The worst thing about it is I had that sent to my new dentist. Im terrified he even read it. I never knew what it said. Auvenshine is not worth your money or the heart and time you put into trying to make your life better. He has no sympathy for your pain and suffering and they all sit in judgement while your going for treatment. Pros: Dr Auvenshine is supposed to known as the best for tmj Cons: wants your money and no loving touch more

Save your money 7/10/2008

Dr. Auvenshine bills himself as some kind of TMJ expert. My opinion is that it is a huge scam and Dr. A's primary interest is in collecting his outrageous fee. Here is the breakdown: total cost of ""treatment"": $4000. This consisted of taking photos & xrays, making a mold of my teeth & making a nightguard appliance. Yes, every other dentist charges about $400-$500 for this but you get Auvenshine's special ""expertise"". Part of this charge includes your ""discharge"" appt which consists of more pictures. I asked how additional pictures were designed to further my treatment & it turns out, they weren't - they were to document my ""progress"" so Dr. A could claim some type of ""success"". \r One more thing, after 1 year, ""adjustments"" to the nightguard (free at any other dentist), are $185. You'd think you'd get top-notch service, right? Not so. Long waits (in an empty office), uninformed staff, & - get this - he won't even clean or polish the nightguard. \r Yes, but does his magic treatment work. My opinion (having worn a nightguard for over 25 year) is that it does, but not any better than the appliances I've previously gotten from my regular dentist. In fact, originally, it made my jaw much worse - Dr. A physically stretched my jaw open (despite the fact that I was already in pain) to ""prove"" that I was improving because my jaw opened another millimeter. I actually finally got relief using muscle relaxers proscribed by my regular dentist. \r My recommendation is to go to Dr. A only as a last resort. Try a few other regular dentists who will fit you with a nightguard before going down this road. A regular dentist will typically charge $400-$500 for a nightguard with lifetime adjustments for free. Auvenshine charges $4000 and charges you for adjustments after a year. Add on to that the ""replacement charge"" if you lose or break it. Most doctors will just charge you another $400-$500 but with Dr. A, its around $1000. Pros: Its works Cons: But no better than conventional treatment; outrageously expensive more
