Rude staff - Doctor spent all of 5 minutes with me 10/24/2011

Since being hospitalized with severe steroid refractory ulcerative colitis a total of 30 days over a 7 week period, I would have thought that the doctor would want to spend a little more time and set a follow up appointment with me. Although extremely polite, unlike the staff in the office, he spent all of 5 minutes in the room and said something vaguely about following up with him in 6 months. Currently taking remicade treatments and really need someone who shows a little more interest in what's going on with me. Left me feeling uneasy. No blood work/follow up colonoscopy discussed. Hmmm. Kinda thought you should do blood work on someone who was on remicade? I guess I will search for another GI doc. This was at the Round Rock location. The girls in the office need a vacation or something. Extremely unfriendly. Give a very bad first impression. more

Dr Becker - good Doctor and nice guy - too busy!!! 6/16/2010

seems to me everything is pushed off on to the medical assistant who is a total air-head - she has misinformed me several times and doesn't know the first thing about my disease - she has told me with confidence things that if i'd believed without double checking could have had disastrous results - she also doesn't care enough to even remember my name even after a year of going there and when i tried to tranfer to another location the request was denied - not very patient friendly - i think they stink!!! doctor becker thinks he's a rock star Pros: seemingly intelligent and he's been friendly Cons: too busy - doesn't care enough - assistant does everything more

Dr Becker - too busy and too important to be bothered. AGI NOT - patient focused - 7/31/2008

My 6'1"" college age son has gone from 175 to 145 pounds in 6 weeks. Every time he eats, he gets such extreme stomach cramps, he does not eat.\r We went to see Dr. Becker, after a 3-week wait.\r First, his PA talked with us. She took BP, and breath sounds.\r Dr. Becker then came in, and seemed to be mildly interested, at best.\r He then said that we should schedule a Colonoscopy.\r Since the symptoms did not include ANY lower GI - diarraha, red in stool, constipation, craps below navel - this test did not seem to make a lot of sense.\r Dr. Becker already had the door open, and was leaving, before I could try to ask any questions.\r Once he understood that I wanted some answers, he begrudgingly came back in, and gave some fairly meaningless/uninforming answers.\r I then asked, since the symptoms occured within seconds of taking a bite of food, if it may be an upper GI problem, and would an endoscope would be helpful.\r His response was amazing and insulting.\r He replied,""I could do a endoscope at the same time as the colonoscopy, but I wouldn't find anything.""\r I found it amazing that a doctor would offer to run an invasive test that he had no confidence in just to satisfy a reasonable question! I was insulted by the fact that he tried to put the responsibility for running this test on me, my son's dad.\r He then said that we could wait a couple weeks, and prescibed a anti-spasm medication.\r He offered no advice on taking the medication, and did not discuss any possible side effects.\r It turned out that the medication had significant side effects, resulting in my son needing to quit his job.\r It was appearent for the above reasons that my son should see a different doctor.\r When I called to request a change to one of the other doctors, I was informed that it was ""AGI policy"" that if you see one of the doctors, you can not see a different one without permission of both doctors. Humm...\r As of 2-weeks later, none of the other doctors have given permission...This Stinks! Pros: Office staff efficient and friendly. Cons: Doctor and management not focused on patients. more

Dr. Harish Gagneja is The Best! 7/26/2008

This is really more about Dr. Gagneja than it is Austin Gastroenterology. However, since he is a doctor in the group and didn't have his own category, I'll write my review here. I was recommended to Dr. Gagneja from my Buda doctor years ago. At that time, Dr. Gagneja was new to Austin and his private practice was small. I was a little skeptical and with a newly diagnosed problem I was quite frankly scared. From the first time meeting Dr. Gagneja and his staff I was quickly put to ease and got the feeling from the start that I wasn't just another patient but that they really did care. Dr. Gagneja has the best bedside manner and the friendliest smile and attitude. I also like the fact that I try and stay up with what's going on with my condition. I can talk to Gagneja about what I'm reading and he doesn't make me feel like I am a complete idiot for asking questions or asking about alternatives to the normal protocol. In fact, he works outside of the box and takes into consideration everything that is going on with my body and doesn't just write a scrip and send me on my way. Dr. Gagneja has moved up to Austin Gastro which is much larger and doesn't have the small office feel. That's not a bad thing, just different from when I originally came to Dr. Gagneja. Regardless, I will follow Dr. Gagneja wherever he goes. He still gives the same attention to me as when he was solo in his own practice. He greets me with a large smile and the feeling that he truly does care! Pros: He is a Superior Gastro Doc! He has offices in Central & South Austin, Buda & Bastrop! Cons: Have to wait a little longer to get into see him. He is worth the wait! more
