My 6'1"" college age son has gone from 175 to 145 pounds in 6 weeks. Every time he eats, he gets such extreme stomach cramps, he does not eat.\r
We went to see Dr. Becker, after a 3-week wait.\r
First, his PA talked with us. She took BP, and breath sounds.\r
Dr. Becker then came in, and seemed to be mildly interested, at best.\r
He then said that we should schedule a Colonoscopy.\r
Since the symptoms did not include ANY lower GI - diarraha, red in stool, constipation, craps below navel - this test did not seem to make a lot of sense.\r
Dr. Becker already had the door open, and was leaving, before I could try to ask any questions.\r
Once he understood that I wanted some answers, he begrudgingly came back in, and gave some fairly meaningless/uninforming answers.\r
I then asked, since the symptoms occured within seconds of taking a bite of food, if it may be an upper GI problem, and would an endoscope would be helpful.\r
His response was amazing and insulting.\r
He replied,""I could do a endoscope at the same time as the colonoscopy, but I wouldn't find anything.""\r
I found it amazing that a doctor would offer to run an invasive test that he had no confidence in just to satisfy a reasonable question! I was insulted by the fact that he tried to put the responsibility for running this test on me, my son's dad.\r
He then said that we could wait a couple weeks, and prescibed a anti-spasm medication.\r
He offered no advice on taking the medication, and did not discuss any possible side effects.\r
It turned out that the medication had significant side effects, resulting in my son needing to quit his job.\r
It was appearent for the above reasons that my son should see a different doctor.\r
When I called to request a change to one of the other doctors, I was informed that it was ""AGI policy"" that if you see one of the doctors, you can not see a different one without permission of both doctors. Humm...\r
As of 2-weeks later, none of the other doctors have given permission...This Stinks!
Pros: Office staff efficient and friendly.
Cons: Doctor and management not focused on patients.
