Best

I like to go there at least once a week. Once i get there i can just relax and enjoy the life. If I could stay there forever, I definitely would

Worst

I don't know if they were just having a bad day or what, but my spa day was a disaster! From the moment I arrived, they couldn't locate my appointment to the stinging mask that ha...

Fantastic Experience 5/5/2006

I have been to many different SPAs in various cities in the US and all around the world. I also enjoy going to SPAs. My boy friend and I went to Athena for their couple's package. We were treated like queen and king at their VIP room with excellent body scrub , 1hr massage and mini facial. The staff gave us outstanding service with their awesome skills. Athena spa was the best spa I've ever been to. Pros: nice staff, beautiful atmostphere more

Change is Needed here 5/5/2006

Change is sorely needed here. The massage was ok (noisy area, but ok) The facial was a disaster. Is it too much to ask to have your blackheads removed? Is it too much to ask for a pleasant reply? more

They gave me a Headache... 5/1/2006

I was escorted to a minature closet space. As I expained the points of greater interest, I heared a loud voice coming from the room next door, can you lower your voice! There was someone next door? and I was whispering! From that moment on...it was people talking load, drawers opening and closing...it was noisy and obtrusive rather then a heaven for relaxation! I got up off the bed 3 times and she kept saying listen to the music. I came out of it with a huge headache...and I was not given a discount, offered relief or any other freaking thing, except and huge bill and told that the usual tip was $20. Oh yeah, and that someone would call me to find out what happened. Huh? more

Very disappointing experience 5/1/2006

Let's start with the receptionist could not locate my appointment, to 30 mins wait before I get my first treatment. The facial was a joke and the person did it either unprofessional or be licensed, no exfoliation/UV light for antibacterial after the extraction/no toner/eye cream after the facial. Best of all, the facialist was also the one who did my manicure and pedicure. She saved some lotion from the facial for my hand massage later!! Pros: low prices Cons: low quality, bad service more

Baby smooth skin 4/25/2006

I came here during Spa Week to try their Korean Body Scrub. Wow, what results! I have the most smoothest skin I've had since I was young... The steam room and scrub room is not for the shy however. You have to be comfortable being completely nude in front of the other strangers near you. If you can get past that, and the kind lady scrubbing you down, it will most certainly be well worth the short embarassment. Oh yes, laid down in the famous Igloo sauna afterwards... how relaxing! I would come back here again. Pros: Korean Scrub, Cool Igloo Sauna Cons: Not for the shy more

Spa Week 4/25/2006

I had the Body Scrub for Spa Week. It is very intimidating because you're buck naked alongside other naked girls. But it was definitely worth the Spa Week prices for what you get. My skin felt baby soft afterwards. I would go back again for this treatment. I've never had this kind of experience before, but they definitely do a great job. The igloo is huge too! The people don't speak English that well, but can communicate for the most part. Pros: Great Body Scrub, Evening Hours!, Nice facilities Cons: Intimidating, Bad English more

ReWound! 4/21/2006

This spa recently participated in the "SpaWeek" promotion. Where spas offer a few services at a promotional price in order to introduce new clientele to their Spa. Sounds like a "no brainer", one would think? I was excited as I really enjoy the Spa Experience. But my excitement was short lived. As this spa was inappropriatly staffed to handle the amount of spa goers this promoton would drum up. I had to wait 1/2 hour before my treatment would begin. They tried to pacify me by offering a shower & steam, as if I wouldn't notice I had to wait. Waiting wasn't the problem as I wasn't particularly in a rush that day. The actual treatment (45min. massage) was wonderful as my massuse was wonderful. This minimized the fact that I waited 30min. Atleast until it was time to settle up. The person at the counter's persona was less than zen like, she if fact was frantic, and a bit combative, which naturally brought me down from the massage-high I was presently on. But I soon got over it when an associate stepped in to assist me. They then stated that due to the response to the promotion they were extending the special for an additional week. Great I thought! Plus they gave me a coupon for $15 dollars off my next treatment. Sweet! Keep it coming & I'll keep coming! I was quite exhilirated by this gesture, in fact I've been telling friends & co-workers about this Spa. Overlooking the minor issues I encountered. As I can understand being busy, plus at that point the massage itself & the little perks were fresh on my mind. That was until I tried to book an appoinment for myself & a friend to take advantage of the extended promotion for the following week. That's when all of the little issues came rushing back. I suspect the same rude/inexperienced individual answered the phone. When I stated that I wanted to book an appointment for next weeks promotion she told me to call back next week to do so. The whole point was to book in advance to avoid any potential problems, also to better secure the time-slot of our choice. She responded by telling me that she was simply too busy to take the time to assist me. I calmly asked if the were open the following day (Sun) so I could call back then. Again she was less than friendly. Which can lead me to only one conclusion, and that's it's quite obvious that I am not a valued customer. Maybe they should have anticipated the volume & bought someone in specifically to better accomodate the clienteles' needs. Especially if they are going to extend the offer for an additional week! Well special or no special I will not be going back to Athena Spa! I live in the fast-paced NYC, the whole point & thrill of the Spa Experience is to escape if only for an hour or two. To be able to indulge & de-compress from the demands of everday city life. Only to have the whole experience completely undone by a snotty receptionist upon exit defeats this puropse. Did I mention she gave me the key to someone esle's locker in the beginning! "Re-wound Up" Spa Afficionado! more

Confusing! 4/21/2006

I needed a good body scrub before the summer, so I figure I'll spend $50 during spa week. The place is gorgeous none the less, but the lack of attention and full of confusion really turns me off. On top of that, the receptionist is the most miserable and impolite person I've ever met in a spa. Pros: atmosphere, good body scrub Cons: miserable receptionis, confusing more

Saves your money and Time 4/18/2006

Take my word, skip this spa. There are much better places at similar or lower prices that actually produce results. My facial was a total waste of time and they hype out the Igloo that is nothing to write home about. Juvenex has a much better one and it is all jade. Plus the level of service is quite higher there. Well, I like to try all spas at least once in my hunt for best pampering spots. I will walk one more block and have my treatments at Oasis spa. Not Recommended Cons: Language barrier, Bad Facial more

Great spa experience 4/16/2006

Athena is a very cool spa with a unique Igloo. It is a sauna where you can sit in it. I have been to many spas in New York and I have never seen this igloo before. the spa was tranquil and my massage and facial were great. a great find! Pros: nice, clean, very cool more

Nice facial 4/15/2006

I had Diamong Peeling facial with Grace at Athena Spa. I have had acnes for a long time and my skin is super oily. However now my skin looks great after Grace's awesome diamond peeling and microdermabration. Also during the facial she gave me an excellent foot massage which gave me an extra relaxation..... Highly recommend Grace for facial. Pros: awesome facial more

Tired 2/25/2006

I just want a good facial. I'm so tired of walking away spending good money and seeing absolutely no results. Plus this palce is too expensive. Remember you must earn it-good quality work is not offered here. Sorry, but try again. Pros: close to my work Cons: Not friendly, Expensive more

worst massage ever 1/18/2006

My boyfriend and I went in for a relaxing hot stone massage and left VERY disappointed and tense. Throughout the entire massage, the staff laughed and talked (in a different language) the entire time. There was no peace, tranquility, or relaxation. When we shared our disappointment with the receptionist, she shrugged it off. My boyfriend and I even had burn marks from the stones. It was a waste of $250. more

What a Disater 11/4/2005

I don't know if they were just having a bad day or what, but my spa day was a disaster! From the moment I arrived, they couldn't locate my appointment to the stinging mask that had to be wiped off my face and smothered with soothing gel to calm it down. Pros: location Cons: Pushy sales, horrible facial more

Less than professional service 10/27/2005

A truly horrible experience from the bar handing out paper cups for the self-serve water cooler to the three women that were chatting it up in my brightly lit room during my facial. I was left on a table unattended for 20 to 30 minutes at a time each time a new treatment was put on my face, until I finally decided to get up and look for the woman to finish up so I could get out of there. All told, my 60 minute facial lasted 90 minutes, at least 70 of which I spent wondering if I had been forgotten. I left what was supposed to be a relaxing experience with a splitting headache and wondering how much longer a place like that could stay in business. DO NOT GO!! more
