Review content:
This spa recently participated in the "SpaWeek" promotion. Where spas offer a few services at a promotional price in order to introduce new clientele to their Spa. Sounds like a "no brainer", one would think? I was excited as I really enjoy the Spa Experience. But my excitement was short lived. As this spa was inappropriatly staffed to handle the amount of spa goers this promoton would drum up. I had to wait 1/2 hour before my treatment would begin. They tried to pacify me by offering a shower & steam, as if I wouldn't notice I had to wait. Waiting wasn't the problem as I wasn't particularly in a rush that day. The actual treatment (45min. massage) was wonderful as my massuse was wonderful. This minimized the fact that I waited 30min. Atleast until it was time to settle up. The person at the counter's persona was less than zen like, she if fact was frantic, and a bit combative, which naturally brought me down from the massage-high I was presently on. But I soon got over it when an associate stepped in to assist me. They then stated that due to the response to the promotion they were extending the special for an additional week. Great I thought! Plus they gave me a coupon for $15 dollars off my next treatment. Sweet! Keep it coming & I'll keep coming! I was quite exhilirated by this gesture, in fact I've been telling friends & co-workers about this Spa. Overlooking the minor issues I encountered. As I can understand being busy, plus at that point the massage itself & the little perks were fresh on my mind. That was until I tried to book an appoinment for myself & a friend to take advantage of the extended promotion for the following week. That's when all of the little issues came rushing back. I suspect the same rude/inexperienced individual answered the phone. When I stated that I wanted to book an appointment for next weeks promotion she told me to call back next week to do so. The whole point was to book in advance to avoid any potential problems, also to better secure the time-slot of our choice. She responded by telling me that she was simply too busy to take the time to assist me. I calmly asked if the were open the following day (Sun) so I could call back then. Again she was less than friendly. Which can lead me to only one conclusion, and that's it's quite obvious that I am not a valued customer. Maybe they should have anticipated the volume & bought someone in specifically to better accomodate the clienteles' needs. Especially if they are going to extend the offer for an additional week! Well special or no special I will not be going back to Athena Spa! I live in the fast-paced NYC, the whole point & thrill of the Spa Experience is to escape if only for an hour or two. To be able to indulge & de-compress from the demands of everday city life. Only to have the whole experience completely undone by a snotty receptionist upon exit defeats this puropse. Did I mention she gave me the key to someone esle's locker in the beginning! "Re-wound Up" Spa Afficionado!
