Ashland House Wedding 8/10/2005

I have been going to the Ashland house for many years. I even got married there. My entire guest at the wedding said how wonderful the food was. The best thing about getting married there was the place was already decorated. We said our vows in between the trees growing out of the restaurant. It was also a very reasonable price for a wedding being catered. I even had an old time car take us a way to finish off the mood of the restaurant. I had Linda the owner bake the grooms cake. Everyone said that was the best chocolate cake they ever ate. I love all the deserts they serve there. I also had my brides maid lunch there. Its a great place to get a group of your friends together and have a lunch. I will be going back again. Pros: Great Food, nice waiters, specials Cons: Not fast food, always a crowd more

Sorry to burst your bubble.... 4/20/2005

Ambience: Great for anyone over the age of 75. You will love the Victorian atmosphere and the slightly moldy odor intrinsic to most historic homes. It's like a trip to great-grandma's house except they have indoor plumbing. Seating/Service: Excellent. Fast, friendly and courteous. NO complaints. Food: Exactly like my mother used to make: It looks really great on the plate, but it's bland, bland, B-L-A-N-D. And in large portions. They were trying out a new cheese-based soup the day I went for lunch that was supposed to be a Southwestern something-or-other. Trust me when I tell you it was not. The only real flavor I detected was scorched cheese. Since then, my office has ordered lunch from Ashland's several times. I've tried different items and found nothing I'd pick again other than a green salad. Unless the food improves, Ashland's will continue to be NOT my cup of tea. Pros: Quaint, Great service, Reasonable prices Cons: Stale, Bland food, Overrated more

Delicious and fun 2/19/2003

I have been to Ashland House several times and have always enjoyed the experience. The food is delicious, the portions are appropriate to generous, and the staff is friendly. Save room for dessert! It's the only place in town to get a real home-made pie crust like Gramma used to make. Pros: Great entree quality, Great menu variety, Exceptional desserts more

  • In Short
Long a Heights fixture, this popular lunching spot moved to the Spring Branch area in 1996 to a snug little house that actually has two trees growing up through the middle of it....
