Thanks for the previous tips on this clinic. A few friends had taken their pets to this place (they don't anymore) and did not have good things to say. I thought I'd see what reviews were out there and after reading all of them, I will NEVER take my animals anywhere near this place. Reviews show that they are unprofessional, mean to owners and are only in it for the money. Look at the reviews of any place you are thinking of going to. It is well worth the effort! more

Recently, I have had some really bad experiences with the vet/owner and manager of Makai Animal Clinic. I read a number of online reviews and it is clear that I am not the only one who is not happy. The care of my dog has really suffered while at Makai and I just started taking him to another vet in Aikahi. The service is so much better and they still charge a lot but at least I am getting what I paid for. \r The comments stating that there is a ""NASTY negative person..."" is really so not cool. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion and share their story (about Makai, NOT a person who has a review posted). It looks like Dr. Zane has a number of very unhappy clients. I think people who take the time to review do not deserve to be ripped apart whether they have something good to say or bad to say--isn't that what a review is???\r more

On November 18, 2011, my family's 11 year old Golden Retriever went to Makai Animal Clinic. We had been taking are 6 dogs to Makai for 6+years. Five months later, my dog had to be put down. My dog died because Dr. Z did not look at my dog's Records and gave him a drug (Rimadyl) that tests showed he could not tolerate. The side effects (the drug has many side effects including Death) caused a red, itchy ""hotspot"" on the top of my dog's head. The lesion became infected and spread down his face and other lesions appeared on his legs, arms and trunk. Despite us asking Dr. Z (3 times) to take a culture test, he refused but instead kept prescribing different antibiotics. When tests were taken, it was too late. My dog's body has been taken over by 2 potentially deadly, transmittable (between human and animal) bacterial infections, MRSA and Strep. They have refused to take any responsibility but they were more than willing to take over $3,000 from us. more
