Best

Went there with a friend before a show and had a fabulous girls' night out. Although the restaurant is definitely upscale, our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Everyone ...

Worst

Don't come here if you are trying to make it to a play on time...somehow we got ice cold food, bad service, AND were still late for our play. The table next to us never even got ...

Excellent 10/9/2004

My first visit to Artista was last night and it definitely will not be the last! The food was absolutely perfect. I had the snapper with a lump crab sauce and asparagus. For dessert (can't remember the exact name), I had the chocolate mousse cake with pineapple and Rasberry sauce. Pros: Food Quality, Service more

Didn't meet expectations 7/8/2004

I was really looking forward to attending Artisita, but my experience was not what I expected. The food is average, the service is awful, and it is very noisy. Not only did our waiter mess up our order and bring out the wrong dish twice, but he had awful breath!!!! I thought that the food would make up for it, but their entrees are nothing special. Pros: crawfish taquitos, excellent view Cons: , average food, crowded more

Watch Out! 5/27/2004

My family went to eat here before seeing 42nd Street. I told the waiter I was allergic to shellfish and he brought my fish with scallop sauce. I told him that it had scallops in it and he just wanted to take the little sauce dish off my plate and then bring me a new sauce. The sauce had spilled out on the fish already and so I told him I needed a whole new plate. I should not have had to tell him how dangerous of a mistake that was. I was VERY disappointed in that given how much they choose to charge. I will never go back - they did not even refill my water! I recommend Da Marco for sea bass instead! Pros: quiet - easy to talk, nice chairs to sit in Cons: , long wait for food, almost missed show more

Great view...... average food. 5/2/2004

No doubt Artista has one of the best views in the Theater District, and the staff makes sure to treat you well....... yet the food is pretty much average. I get the concept (not really new any more) of mixing sauces with sides and main course, but my chef recommended sauce was nothing more than a garlic salad dressing (for scallops and spinach) that stayed on my taste buds for hours. The trece leches dessert was simply awful, the gluey white topping in particular. Overall, there is a good variety of menu selections and a decent wine list, but I basically feel you are paying for the view. Pros: Service, Location, Variety Cons: , Price more

Exquisite 11/4/2003

Ravishingly beautiful with a decor that complemented the stunning view. Very quaint, romantic, and ideal for a date, reunion, business dinner, and/or before a show. The Chilean Seabass was to die for. Pros: Sauces, View, Value more

Delicious Birthday! 10/2/2003

My boyfriend and I went for our dual birthdays and had an amazing dinner! Our waiter was very helpful and made us very comfortable. The crawfish taquito is delicious. The sea bass with the scallop and corn sauce and roasted jicama side was great!!!! The tuna and bok choy was also very good. (The sea bass sauce went with the tuna better, though.) We were complimented with both of our own birthday desserts. The view is very nice and the seating was very comfortable and the food presentation was refreshing. We're still talking about this great place! Pros: Crawfish Taquito, Sea Bass, Dessert Cons: Great View, Very comfortable, Perfect waiter more

Excellent but the food was just ok 7/30/2003

Great ambiance and outstanding service! For those that rated it bad, they should go back and try it again! Nicholas-our waiter- treated us like 'royalty'! The food was ok... presentation need some improvement. Crawfish taquito was 'different'... the Tres Leches was just ok (it is better at Churrascos or Americas). The best part was my drink-- Mojito! Mmm! I will go back! Pros: Service, Ambiance Cons: Food- Average more

Stunning views; slow service 7/21/2003

In two visits to Artista, we have been impressed with the setting, views, and decor. Unfortunately, the slow, indifferent, and unprofessional service has tainted our dining experiences both times. On the first visit, the manager apologized profusely for our horrible waitress and comped us the crawfish taquito appetizer (which was very good). The second time, we were stuck with the same incompetent waitress, but no apologies were made. Also, Artista ""ran out of"" its Churassco steaks during our last visit, which is inexcusable considering the Churassco is the signature Cordua dish. Finally, $10 valet parking is unreasonable --- the restaurant should validate. Until we hear that service has improved, we won't return. Pros: Great location, Beautiful views, Food presentation Cons: Expensive parking, Slow, bad service, Poor menu planning more

Extraordinary Experience 7/11/2003

Without a doubt Artista offers the best view of downtown. Awesome dccor, great menu selection and layout. They let you be your own artist, you get to create your own plate. The service was superb. more

What a view 7/11/2003

Had dinner last night and had a great experience. We started with the crawfish taquito and it just melted in my mouth. Love how you can pick your meat/fish, your side and then the sauce. The presentation is out of this world and nothing like it anywhere in Houston. Wine list is very diversified and very representative of the fine wine regions. My tuna was exactly like it should be...rare rare rare. My son's Churrascos was like the other restaurants...cut it with a fork. My husband had the salmon and it was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. The apricot sorbet was like biting into a fresh apricot. My son had Mr. Cordua's famous tres leche and couldn't get enough of it. My daughter had the cheesecake and wants to go back for more. Can't wait to go back. The view is unsurpassed by anything else around here. Pros: View, fabulous food Cons: bathrooms more

Disappointing... 6/12/2003

Don't come here if you are trying to make it to a play on time...somehow we got ice cold food, bad service, AND were still late for our play. The table next to us never even got their food. The waitstaff was unapologetic, as was the manager. So basically, we paid about $70 (food and wine) to have cold food, bad service, and be late for our play. Very upsetting. more
