If you are lazy like me but want a cut that's cool and edgy, Yaz at Arte Salon is the way to go. I wanted a salon close to home that wasn't overly pretentious. I stopped by Arte on a fluke and ended up getting Yaz. He made my ""long layers"" look less midwest and more LES. It was a lucky break, and I'm definitely going back. more

I went to Tim as a referral from my boss. I was so happy and pleased with my cut. He gave me the volume and shape that fit my face and frame. Not only did i look great when I left but the cut he gave me is so easily reproducable. Every day when I do my hair I think of Tim cause it always looks great. Thanks Tim!!! So I went to Tim due to all the positive feedback on him on here. I have to say thank you to every one because i got the best haircut I have ever had in my 34 years. I've been having my hair cut by Tim Cadman at Arte for almost a year now and will never go anywhere else. Quite simply, he is talented, kind and has an intuitive sense of what looks good. \r \r I had tried a number of salons in Manhattan and felt like I was getting bad haircuts for way too much $$$. Then I stepped through the door at Arte into a haven of stylish calm. Tim consulted in depth with me about what I wanted from my new haircut and brought his own creative ideas to the table, but made me feel very comfortable overall. It's so rare to find a hairdresser in Manhattan who genuinely takes time and actually cares about the end result. I was in desperate need of an updated look without losing the length that I'd worked so hard to get. After almost 4 years of ""boy short"" hair, I decided to grow it out.. I had made it through the weird and funky stages to a respectable shoulder length.. but that's it.. My hair just sort of hung there with no life or personality. I tried explaining to my stylist back in LA what I wanted and just wasn't able to communicate it to her. When I arrived in the city, my girlfriend was singing Joseph's praises and booked me an appointment. When I arrived, the receptionist and Joseph greeted me immediately. They were really friendly. Joesph escorted me back to have my hair washed.. it was the BEST hair washing/massage ever.. I believe Miyuki is her name.. Next, I was taken to Joesph's chair.. he sat me down and began to really analyze my hair, taking note that I had A LOT of hair but very fine hair, which if you cut it wrong, it just sort of expands out.. He took his time getting to know how it fell, where my cowlicks were, where it flipped naturally and were it hung straight. Then he began cutting.. And it truly was like watching Edward Scissorhands go to work.. I didn't have to explain what I wanted, he got it. He carved my hair.. like Michaelangelo carving David.. he went in and cut the tiniest of strands, thinned it out so that it wasn't so bulky AND saved my length.. After drying and styling, he fine tuned his design and I couldn't believe it.. it was so subtle but so lovely.. I was more than happy.. I can continue to grow it out and have the beautiful layers.. Oh and I haven't even mentioned the compliments I've gotten.. I am grateful and appreciate the time and patience Joseph spent on my hair. I've been going to Arte Salon for two years and adore it. I was recommended to Miyuki through a coworker and love her work. She has remarkable attention to detail with both cut and color. I've honestly never had anything but a great experience there. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere exudes understated downtown chic. Love that they introduced me to Kerastase products, which have transformed my hair. Can't say enough good things about Arte and the wonderful Miyuki. Arte is the only place I will cut my hair from now on. I have tried other places and they don't even come close. Disa is a miracle worker. She manages to cut my overly thick hair into a perfect bob every time! And she must be a mind reader because whether I want it shorter, with bangs, longer, growing out my bangs, it always comes out exactly as I wanted it to be. I moved to Boston but I come back to NY for my haircuts. Everyone who works there is amazing. Very down to earth and honest. Not your average phony ""oh your hair looks great"". Ladies & Gents- I haven't had a minute to write my fantabulous review, (as I have been meaning to for weeks) due to the fact that I have been bombarded DAILY by endless compliments, ever since Joe got a hold of me and revamped my precious locks. I walk down the street and people start following me just to ask me about my hair - OK, it's getting a little nuts, peoples. I've been growing my hair long for two years to donate, and was quite nervous when it came to chopping off all 13 inches. Upon a friend's recommendation, I made an appointment with Joseph. The salon itself is very relaxing and calming - not an ounce of pretentiousness which I was grateful for. As soon as I got in the chair, Joseph put me right at ease and gave me a fantastic short bob which I loved instantly. Even better - my husband loved it too! Now, a month later, I'm heading back to Arte Salon to maintain my new short style (though the cut has grown out quite nicely). Having my hair cut by somebody new is a difficult step. Once I like a stylist, I am not easily swayed to go elsewhere. Unfortunately, my regular stylist left town and after letting my hair go far too long without maintenance, I finally followed a friend's recommendation and went to Joseph at Arte. He really listened to my issues, suggested solutions and made sure that I was comfortable before starting to cut, promising not to cut too much. I like my hair long, but it just did not look good. The new layers give it a much lighter feel and it is so much healthier. Where before it took me forever to get ready in the morning, now I can just do a quick blow-dry to smooth out the front a bit and I'm on my way. Even if I just let it dry naturally it looks all right. That has never happened before.\r The salon is beautiful and one feels really welcome there. Joseph, the owner, has a fun and charming personality. Actually, everyone there is friendly and helpful. While the decor is refined and modern, everybody walks around without attitude. A cool blend of laid-back vibe and professional know-how. Also, they carry Kerastase products, which I love. That stuff just works and is well worth the investment. I've been going to see Timothy Cadman for years, who has been at Arte for a few years now. I just wanted to post something about him because he is THE BEST haircut I've gotten in NYC after going to all the big name people for long before that. He is a true artist and with the blowdry his haircut lasts about 2 hours because he takes so much time and care with making it perfect. I joke with him because when I'm lazy and/or times are lean, he may see me only once every 3 or 4 months-- this is the measure of a fantastic cut. Run, don't walk to see him... it's well worth it. more

The bright, relaxed atmosphere was as inviting as the warm & professional staff. Joe, the owner, made me feel comfortable in his chair & really took the time necessary to understand my hair & deliver a fantastic cut. He was graceful & meticulous, not to mention a real nice guy. From the warm reception, to the relaxing shampoo, to the amazing cut, I loved the whole experience & walked out that lovely salon feeling a thousand times better than when I had walked in. I've been following Tim for 3 years. He is an amazing stylist and a gentle soul. An appointment with Tim is an experience, not just a haircut. His styles are created around your personality and your hair type. I can't recommend him highly enough.\r \r And Arte is just wonderful. So relaxing - truly feels like anyone is welcome. They host you...like you are in someone's home. I got a haircut from Tim a few months ago and it is growing in so well. I really appreciated the time and precision he took to cut long layers (I never knew what the deal was with layers if you have long hair but now I do!). It was a really hot August day when I came in and being heavily pregnant and tired, I liked how nice-but-mellow TIm was. It was very relaxing to not make conversation and I dozed as he focused really intensely on my hair. It's such a nice salon and there is no big fanfare or pretension. Can't wait to go back. more

My entire (all designers, read: extremely picky) family followed Amy here from her former salon in the EV. We love her precise and edgy haircuts plus her sparkly personality. The salon owner and staff is always offering a water, or glass of wine and are extremely friendly. Its an oasis in Nolita where most services could be depersonalized. Highly recommended.
