Yuck. 12/25/2011

This place takes the cake when it comes to terrible service. I'm not sure what's going on with the management, but this place is going down. The woman who cut my hair was fantastic, and in general the staff was very nice, but the front receptionist kept bothering me. I arrived around 15 minutes early, and I had no problem waiting, but he kept coming over to me trying to talk me into other services and saying that my stylist would be another "5-7 minutes" after I told him, "I don't mind waiting." If you're going to advertise relaxation, let me freaking relax! The glass that he gave me with some of the aveda tea was filthy! It had paint stains all over it! I didn't even have a sip, it was so gross. Then one of the manicurist came over and told me how filthy my nails looked and tried to get me to agree to a manicure. Uhm, I came here for a freaking haircut, that's all I want! This place must be suffering really bad, the staff look unhappy, the woman who told me I should let her do my nails kept pestering the hair stylists, barking orders at them. It seems very, very unprofessional, dirty, unorganized and the management must think their services are worth more when they're not. Don't try to be a true Aveda salon when you aren't one. I wouldn't be surprised if this place was closed within 6 months. more

Very Dissapointing experience 2/4/2011

The gentleman, Kenneth, who typically answers the phone gives quite an impressive spiel when you inquire on services. He explains the stylists are Aveda trained "13 years experience, contemporary, etc." whatever you want to hear basically. He continued on stating they do a thorough consult prior to the cut and style. It all sounded great but my experience was nothing but terrible. I walked in and Kenneth was service oriented, as he had been over the phone however when my stylist- Alison approached me, things went down hill fast. She wasn't welcoming. I was in the middle of filling out their questionnaire and had a clipboard, my coat, and purse...she impatiently watched me fumble around a bit to grab everything. I thought oh boy she is a tough one. She was very unfriendly throughout the service, directing me quite rudely to get up, go to shampoo bowl, etc. and during my shampoo she immediately turned her head around the other direction to socialize with other stylists and what appeard to be their friends haning out casually around the shampoo bowl area and actually lounging in the chairs! Across from me were more friends? standing chatting. Incredibly unprofessional. Due to her lack of attention to me, she deeply scratched my ear with her long nail. "Opps" was her response as I cringed in pain. You know it's bad when the shampoo is a horrible experience. Something along the lines of "go back to the chair" she impolitely says after wrapping a towel on my head. Boy oh boy discussing what style I wanted was rushed and she appeared to be thinking- yeah ok whatever. I asked if she would be able to cut the hair against my neck a bit shorter to create a bob and she cut me off replying "yeah but put your head down" and with her hand puts my head down! What am I- 2 years old!?! I should have gotten up at that point and left. She continued to be arrogant, NOT consult me once during the as she quickly hacked away at my hair. When finished, she didnt ask what I thought, if I liked it, or check her work as is usually done...didnt ensure both sides were even (one side was longer when i got home and she left a large chunk long and sticking out so at home I cut and cut until it was even with the other side. ALSO the round brush she used to style with the blow dryer was full of a ton of hair! Her tools and station in general didnt look sanitary...and there were no scizor sanitizing jars to be seen anywhere. The cut itself wasnt quite what I requested from her not to mention it was sloppy, eneven and too short! She also was very rough and careless. She burned me with the blowdryer, and pulled and pulled jerking my head with the round brush. Aweful! I do believe her skill/talent is or was probably there BUT she is very arrogant, impolite, careless, and on top of that it was clear she didnt care to do a good job or please the customer. Certanily that salon is on the down slope and they are there to hang out and get people in but evidently not care if they return... not her anyway! I said thanks and got up and she walked me up front and fakely said it was nice to meet me. Terrible experience all around. more

Arte de la Mano lost my trust and my business 3/26/2010

When I first walked into Arte de la Mano, I loved it! I thought I had finally found the perfect salon. Things changed about 3 months ago when I went in for an eyebrow shaping. The woman who was doing my eyebrows suggested that I try the Aveda Outer Peace line for my acne prone skin. She told me that the Aveda products are guaranteed so if I wasn't satisfied with them, I could take them back. A week later, I spoke with that same woman and I told her that I didn't think the products were agreeing with my skin. Her response was for me to give the products more time to work. Two months later, my skin had broken out worse than it ever had in my entire life! I decided to stop using the products and slowly my skin began to clear up. I remembered that I had been told that Aveda products are guaranteed so I took them back to Arte de la Mano. The manager told me that he could not take them back because I had used them for more than a week! He refused to give me my money back and kept insisting that Aveda products can not be returned after a week. If I had known that the products were only guaranteed for a week, I never would have bought them! I feel like the people at Arte de la Mano lied to me and stole my money. I will never go back there again. Pros: a great hair stylist names Laura Cons: products that don't work and guarantees not honored more

Terrible.. terrible.. Good service but bad communication 4/24/2009

My experience with lot's of beauty salons here in New Mexico has been Horrific but once I got to this salon I thought that I had found the one! Mary The beautician can't dry hair straight therefore she uses a Hot Iron/Flat IRON to get the hair super straight.. 4th week going there every Saturday and paying one price when all of a sudden Mary state's "Oh because your hair is TIDIOUS.. You've been getting undercharged and therefore from price $25.00 it jumped to $35.00.. wow.. I have the shortest hair ever.. How can the price go up that much? And also why wouldn't you give the customer a fair warning that next time price will go up? Never going bthere again! Spoke to manager very brief and she said she would call me and instead I got email from Salon stating" We thank you for your feedback" WOW..... Pros: Don't waste your money!!!! Cons: Don't waste your money!!!! more

Relax and unwind while you get a great cut! 8/12/2008

Their new location is very relaxing and the people that work there very kind. The Aveda tea that you are offered upon arrival is wonderful and a nice way to unwind prior to getting your hair done. I was unsure as to what I wanted done with my hair and my stylist was very helpful in supplying me with magazines that offered me some style selections. We found a cut that I liked and all the while I was getting my cut she checked with me to make sure I was getting what I wanted. She even made little style adjustments here and there for my face shape per my request. I love that she wasn't arrogant and wasn't afraid to consult with throughout the cut. I thought the price of the cut was fair and the cut turned out great. My stylist even offered to work with me on it later in the week should I have any trouble styling it. Great experience! Pros: Relaxing atmosphere and great cuts. Cons: It's a bit hard to figure out where the entrance is the first time. more

Don't Let The Fancy Name Fool You!! 8/7/2007

I figured I am going to an Aveda salon, so the stylist must be highly trained. WRONG!! Do not let the fancy name fool you as it did me. I was introduced to Christi, the stylist. I was originally quoted 50.00 dollars and up. Christi stated, ?Well we start at 65.00 dollars but you have really thick hair.? That should have been a sign she was haggling her price and me. I told Christi (4 times that I remember), I have never worn my hair dark. Christi said ?No problem I can make the color even and get the color you want.? When Christi was applying the color, I mentioned it looked a little dark. She replied ?Don?t worry it will wash out?. I was thinking okay she knows what she is doing, so I let it go. After my hair color was washed out, Christi took me to the mirror. It was the most horrifying experience to see myself look worse than when I had walked in! I went from auburn to black cheery! In addition, the roots of my hair were a completely different color from my ends! It was as if I had let a 2-year-old do my color! I was devastated! Christi made all kinds of excuse about the hair color! Then when she knew I was not accepting her excuses she accused me of selecting the hair color. How unprofessional is that? After I specially told her, I have NEVER worn my hair dark! Christi knew I was upset. She did not even think to offer some sort of compensation for her lousy service, nor did the manager. I paid my 101.00 dollars and walk out vowing to tell everyone about my horrible experience. I cannot believe Arte de la Mano has no shame short changing their customers by charging outrages prices for hair color services. I have paid a lot less for my hair color and have received a more than perfect job at other places. I cried for a week and still look in the mirror and do not recognize myself. If you want to feel beautiful after a salon service DO NOT GO TO Arte de la Mano Salon. And defiantly do not let Christi touch your hair! Pros: Lots of Parking Cons: To many to talk about! more
