Best

I met Bennett when he was still a student at Arrojo. He was great then and is even better now since he has graduated. He listens to what you want and offers wonderful suggestions....

Worst

I've been to Nick 3 times and his wife 2 times. Of the five times I've been to the salon, I've gotten 2 good cuts. My main issue with Nick is his attitude. If you're not willing t...

Great experience! 11/19/2008

Got a sleek razor cut from Stacey, great highlights from Jenna! They both took the time to discuss what I wanted and what would work for my skintone, face shape, and lifestyle. Great shampoo and scalp massage from Jenna, and Stacy took her time to give me a great blowout and quick flat iron. And to top it all off, Brian did a complementary makeup consultation with color suggestions that would work with my new 'do and for the season. I left the salon feeling like a million bucks (and actually spent less than I expected!). Suffice to say that I made my follow up appointment before leaving the salon! more

Disappointed 10/31/2008

I have been to this salon a number of times, and have been very happy with the results...until my last visit when I saw another stylist who was highly recommended. I thought I had clearly communicated what I wanted (bangs and layers not too short, a wash and go style for my wavy hair, etc.) but now I have bangs that are way too short, layers that are frayed, dry and uneven due to the cutting technique, and a style that just looks bad straight or curly. I've had my share of bad haircuts, but this is the first time I've ever written a review about one--that's how awful my hair looks! Pros: friendly staff, nice atmosphere Cons: stylist didn't listen, can't believe I paid good money to have my hair ruined more

Great Hair Style 10/12/2008

I can't say enough about the great staff and service but they really have to chill on the sales pitches, they are too pushy and aggressive at selling their product line. Pros: Color, style, parking, service, comfort, friendliness Cons: Aggressive selling pitches from everyone there more

I Love Mark!! 9/19/2008

I've been going Arrojo for a year now. I've been going to Mark for haircuts and he is really good. I have thin, unmanageable, wavy hair. He get's it. He understands what I need to have. I would highly recommend him. He is a master stylist, so he's a bit costly. But he is well worth it. He very nice and professional. I do love going to Arrojo. I recently had to deal with someone in Arrojo Product, they don't have their act together over there. But aside from that...it's a great salon. I recently had to cut my costs and went to another (senior) stylist. It wasn't as good, but I'm going to give him another chance. I do suggest asking NOT to have the assistant dry your hair... the assistant dried my hair and he was terrible. Besides for that price, The stylist should dry your hair. I paid $90 for a 15 minute cut and then I had to tip the assistant for the drying. It's not like that with Mark, he takes his time and is very thorough. I really do love going there...so far. I'm going try some highlights soon. I'll let you know how it goes. Pros: Staff is pleasant, comfortable atmosphere Cons: Can be costly more

Too Expensive? Think again! Great experience. Stacey Stacey Stacey! 9/16/2008

Fed up with the terrible haircuts from NYC chains like Jean Louis David, I decided my hair was important enough to investigate Arrojo Studio again. This was my 3rd trip to Arrojo Studio and I'm glad I returned. I have had haircuts with Nick, but with this economy I simply couldn't afford him this time, fabulous though he is. I went to the opposite end of the price spectrum to a ""level 1"" stylist named Stacey. This was by far one of the best haircuts I've ever had. She upholds all the good techniques and cutting/styling philosophy of Nick Arrojo. She provided a true consultation and her asst. Renee did an amazing job with a true ""luxury"" wash/scalp/neck massage. Stacey spent a lot of time reshaping my hair creating a fantastic, elegant, chic cut. I spent $100 total---that's with tips, tax, etc. This was worth every penny. While there are many gifted stylists there, I highly suggest Stacey as she can work with any type of hair. I received compliments from several people on my way home on the subway! I will never return to cheaper haircuts at NYC chains again. The Arrojo Studio gives you all the elegance and trendy hair without the snooty nonsense of other upscale NYC salons. Pros: Skilled stylists, attentive staff more

Arrojo Rocks 8/23/2008

I got the best haircut of my life from Jessica. I told her that I don't do anything with my hair--no flat iron, no blowing it out--and I need the cut to do all the work. This is my normal spiel, and other hairdressers have said, OK, and then proceed to give me a cut that requires 30 minutes of blow-drying and styling to make it look good. Pros: great stylists, friendly staff, good range of prices more

Victoria is amazing!! 8/13/2008

I have looked EVERYWHERE (in several cities and countries!) for a hair stylist that will listen to the customer as well as use their own expertise...I have finally found it in Victoria! She listened to my preferences and specific lifestyle and created a masterpiece that is easy to style and looks amazing. She took so much time and effort to make sure that every piece of my hair was the perfect length and texture. more

Outstanding! 8/8/2008

I just got back from my first haircut at Arrojo. It is one of the best experiences I've ever had! The salon itself is airy and open. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. I even saw Nick Arrojo himself, walking around and checking things out. I had followed my stylist to Arrojo when she left another salon; my haircut from her is as perfect as ever, and I can see she is really happy there. They have classes and you can see it encourages creativity and new ideas from the stylists. Yes, it is expensive, and I can't afford to go every month, but I'll be back! Pros: Everything! Cons: Wish I could afford to go more often more

Always come back to Arrojo studio for a new look 8/3/2008

I've been to Arrojo Studio about 4-5 times. I only go when I want a new look. I've always been treated well. The people are extremely nice and very friendly. I just went yesterday to get my hair cut off, about 10 inches off. It's about 2 years since my last time there and it's all totally renovated. It's pretty modern. They have new changing rooms too. The assistants even offer you juice, tea or water. The assistant brings you to your seat to wait for your stylist to come. I always ask for Lina, one of the master sylists. She's well worth the money. She's amazing. I never tell her what I want, I just basically tell her to do whatever she wants and always gives me AWESOME cuts. She knows exactly what to do and what flatters you. She even still remembers me from 2 years ago. I also got my hair colored by Amy. very friendly and knows what she's doing. All in all, I absolutely LOVE arrojo studio. It is expensive, but it's soo worth the money. If you're in need of a change and have a bit money to spend, go here and ask for Lina. I gotten so many compliments on my hairstyle and it's only been one day. Pros: Lina is awesome. atmosphere hip, staff extremely friendly always makes you comfortable Cons: pricey more

Best Haircut, blowout and service!!! period! 7/13/2008

I've gone to arrojo a few times before and have been to a few stylists at all different levels. Even though everytime I went in there I had a good experience I just never felt like my hair was anything special. That is, until I met Yanny!! He listened to me and wasn't afraid to add a suggesstion or two himself. Which made a world of difference while keeping the leangth and shape I desired. I felt that he was worth every penny and am now a loyal customer of his! more

What a waste of time and money 7/2/2008

My daughter and I wanted to try something different so we went to Arrojo Studios because we had seen Nick's work on TV. He does excellent work, but we could not afford him so we figured anyone that works at his salon would be trained by him and would give us a decent cut and color as well. We both had our haircuts done by master stylists. I saw Amanda and my daughter saw Vincent because these were the two who were recommended to us by the scheduler when we called. Pros: Azita is a great colorist, Arrojo shampoo and conditioner Cons: Snobby atmosphere, noisy, bad haircuts at high prices more

Amanda! Amanda! Amanda! 7/2/2008

I can't say enough wonderful things about Amanda at Arrojo Studio. In September 2007, I was practically given a mullet by my former hairdresser who has since decided to retire (thank god!) In December I couldn't take it and decided to chop it off and start new. By January of 2008, I couldn't stand the fact that my hair had no style, per se and I made an appt with Amanda. I don't know what she did but I call it magic. She transformed my hair and blotchy layers into a cut everyone liked! On an impulse in April I wanted to chop off my hair (again). Amanda was booked and I couldn't wait. BIG MISTAKE. First hairdresser destroyed my hair. Went the next day to have it fixed at a random salon. I thought they evened it out - or tried to convince myself of it. A few weeks later went to Vidal Sassoon - destruction #2. Went in the next day to a master stylist. The way he dried my hair made it look acceptable - yet in the coming months i realized my hair was not even!!!! Two weeks ago I returned to Amanda. Why did I ever stray? She took about an hour to literally go strand by strand to fix the mess. Instantly I saw a difference. My straight her is manageable, easy to style and most importantly is EVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've learned my lesson. Amanda is officially my stylist when she heard that I did not book an appt with her she said she would accommodate me if she could. I love her. The chick has skill and on top of that very cool to talk to while you are sitting in a chair for more than an hour! more

Great vibe and a great cut! 6/29/2008

I'm a transfer from the Ted Gibson salon because it was just getting too expensive for me (still a good place). I went to see Rachel who I had heard many great things about. She didn't let me down. She listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered! She took all the dead ends off and I watched her cut off a lot of hair yet my hair maintained most of its length....usually you have to worry about stylists cutting off a ton even when you ask them not to. Not here! The salon is very trendy and reflective of their Varick St. location, usually this type of hip scene would turn me off but everyone was really down to earth and friendly. After the cut I had a friendly assistant dry my hair and then moved over to Terese who did my eyebrows....also very friendly and good at what she does. I was very happy with Arrojo and plan to visit again. more

NICOLE ROCKS!!!! 6/22/2008

I was a hair model for Nicole about a month ago and I can honestly say it is the best cut I have ever had. As an actress it is essential that my haircut be flattering but nothing too trendy or hard to upkeep, as I was getting pricey new headshots (photos) taken a few weeks after the cut ,and my style will need to be similar to the photos for a few years to come. Nicole not only listened to what I wanted but also asked me questions and explained what she would do beforehand and throughout the cut. I have never been so happy after getting a haircut and I received compliments from everyone I know. And my photos? Even my makeup artist asked where I got my haircut (and she sees a lot of hair!). Nicole is a gifted stylist and sure to become one of Arrojo's most popular stylists (and not just because she's on the upcoming season of Shear Genius). In a city like NY its hard to find both a stylist that will listen and who you feel is really worth the prices...I can finally say that after living here for almost 4 years I have finally found my stylist, and I can't wait to return for a trim with Nicole! Thank you!!! Pros: Convenient location, fun staff, nice bright clean studio Cons: None as far as I could see! more

Hunter is a genius 6/17/2008

Just got back from my second cut from Hunter (not counting the free bangs trim 3-4 weeks ago) and I was stopped on the street TWICE on my walk home with people asking me about my haircut. Pros: You'll look like a rock star more

Why did I bother 6/15/2008

First and LAST time I will ever go there. My haircut was comparable to Great Clips. Hairstylists don't listen and neither do colorists. Cons: My hair looks like a goat chewed on it. Layers are very uneven. more

Be careful of too short cuts! 6/12/2008

After a series of so-so cuts, I decided to check out one of the top rated salons on Citysearch - Arrojo Studio. I was super excited when I arrived. The place is hip and clean and there were a number of beautiful women working there with awesome bob haircuts. My stylist, Yanny ($78 per cut) was extremely friendly and a lot of spent time to talk about what I was looking for. I brought in photos of stylish chin length bobs (a la Katie Holmes) and explained I wanted something fresh but conservative as I work on Wall Street. I made it clear that I was growing my bangs out and I wanted the haircut to be long enough that my ears would be totally covered. I was shocked with the results - an very short spiky punk pixie cut - no way I could hide my ears or the sides of my cheeks. I was so upset that he didn't listen to me at all. Why spend all that time talking about what I want, and bringing in photos when he does his own thing? I did not look like me at all but like Astroboy the Japanese cartoon character. Because of the short layers I had to put a ton of gel and pomade and bobby pins in my Asian hair to keep it from sticking up like a porcupine. I admit I got a ton of compliments on my hair probably because it is so daring, people have to comment on it., and you must have confidence to pull it off . However, three weeks after the trauma I was so fed up with it that I ended up going to another salon, paying $630.00 to get extensions to replicate the cut I originally wanted. So basically, going to Arrojo was a $700 mistake for me. Pros: Ambience, friendly service Cons: Stylist did his own thing and cut too much of my hair off more

Tennessee was a great referal. 6/9/2008

I usually go to Gustavo Briand Hair Studio in Miami Beach, where they know how to treat someone as picky as me, and I know I am a pain, making me feel and look ""Unstoppable"". Pros: Tennessee does a great cut. more

Brava! Super Color and Style...Well exceeded my expectations 5/28/2008

As a first time customer to Arrojo I was wary as there were many mixed reviews. However, I was inspired to to try them after meeting a girl who had a SICK hair style thanks to Amanda. While they are undergoing some construction in the new space, I found everyone extremely helpful and friendly and apologetic in regards to the noise/new layout. Andres did my color and was not only adorable and friendly, but did a brilliant job fixing my troubled/grown-out blond highlights. Additionally, his assistant was super, always with me and I was never left alone and/or wondering what was next. Amanda met with me before the color to tell Andres what her plan was for my hair. I didn't giver her much direction. She has GREAT vision and is a master at creating cool cuts. I was sick of the same old safe ""long-layered"" look every stylist gives me in this city. I read a few posts that ripped into her. My feeling is that either they wanted that ""safe"" mommy style or they're just too tightly wound. She gave me an UNREAL edgy but very wearable rocker like hair cut replete with Bridget Bardot bangs. Finally....stylists and colorists who are TRUE professionals in every sense of the word. I've tried many top salons in NYC: Sally H, Prive, Warren T, etc....trust me, for the price and service Arrojo is unbeatable. Pros: The best colorists and stylists in the city Cons: nada more

Vincent is a Hairstylist's Stylist 5/14/2008

On a rainy Monday, I went to New York for a hair convention and then my appointment booked at Arrojo with Vincent. Although, I'm a hairstylist, I sometimes go months without getting a haircut..this was a special treat. Vincent cuts hair with precision and expertise. I've worked at a couple of great salons in New York and know great technique and razor cutting when I see it. I absolutely LOVE my hair . I've gotten so many compliments. The cool thing is that my cut is very edgy and sort of a 'street' cut. However, everyone, has had good things to say about it. If you want a great cut go to Vincent! Pros: chilled atmosphere more
