Editorial review from Citysearch 3/11/2014

We took our Shih Tzu mix for her first haircut, when we made the appointment we ask if they had any experience with Shih Tzu's and they said ""O Yes"". When we arrived they seamed to understand what we wanted. Had the groomer (Lupe) cared about what she was doing it might have looked like we wanted. Chopped into everywhere one side different from the other, it looks terrible! Our dog was left full of cut hair, it was disrespectfully never blown off, making a complete mess of our car interior. We were told the appointment would take about two hours and we started to worry when we were called just after an hour. The Lupe was already gone when we got there 15 minutes later, evidently in too much of a hurry to get out of there to do a good job. The absentee owner had to be called because none of the other groomers wanted to repair the bad work at that time. Our $55.64 was refunded and we were told to call back in a week or two and ask for the owner to meet with us and the groomer to TRY and repair the bad work. We're afraid to take her back... more

Great Groomers! 7/1/2011

I've been taking my dogs to Arfin' Annie's for years. I've tried other groomers but none have done as well as Arfin' Annie's! I used to have an elderly pet and he was really tough to handle, but these groomers always did a wonderful job with him and he always came home looking gorgeous. I would definitely recommend Arfin' Annie's to all my friends and family! more

ARFIN ANNIES MOVED?!!! 12/14/2010

OMG...I just moved back to Albuquerque and went to Arfin Annies on San Antonio to make an appointment for my babies and they said the were under New Ownership, but they had a different name outside. I know my friends are still using Arfin Annies, so I left. I went down Wyoming and saw a sign ""PET SALON"" pulled into Del Norte Shopping Center and it was them. The same owner and her beautiful yellow lab Kendall and all the same groomers were still there. They gave me a tour of the new place...I LOVE IT!!! They always used the best products and now they are even using Culligan soft water on the dogs like my hair dresser uses on mine..lol..! They are also next door to a Veterinarian so I made a appointment there too! My dogs are so happy to see familiar faces and so am I!! Sophie and Zoey are glad to be back in Albuquerque! more

Do NOT use this groomer if you care about your pets! 4/16/2010

I was a new customer, so when making the appointment I asked for the most experienced groomer with small, difficult dogs. I was told the WOMAN had many years experience with small, difficult dogs and it wouldn't be a problem. So, I made the appointment. First of all, I couldn't even find the place because they have moved to a new location and failed to update google. When I arrived, the seemed very disorganized and the MAN behind the counter said he would be grooming my dog. I said NO, I was told your most experienced groomer (a woman) was grooming my dog today. Finally, she came out and said my dog would be ready in 4 hours. This seemed long to me, but I agreed. After 4 hours, and no phone call, I drove back to the shop and asked if my dog was ready. A new man behind the counter said that Carlos had not groomed my dog yet. WHAT?!?! Even though, I specifically asked for the most experienced groomer.... a WOMAN! I immediately asked for the man to bring me my dog. So, after 4 hours they haven't even STARTED grooming my dog yet. And when I got my dog home, she was so thirsty I doubt she was given water or bathroom breaks in the 4 hours she was there! Do NOT use this groomer if you care about your pets! Horrible, Liars! Cons: Oh, I was conned alright! more

Best groomer in town by far! 6/18/2009

I recently rescued a poodle from a family that was no longer able to take care of her. When I picked her up she was in HORRIBLE condition, matted all over head, ears, tail, body, everywhere. I have always used Arfin' Annie's in the past with my previous pets because it seems like everywhere else I tried my dogs would come back very lethargic and scared. Anyway I'll get to the point...I called Arfin' Annie's knowing that they would be booked but hoped for the best, asked if I could bring Sally in explained that I was a previous customer, just adopted her, etc. They informed me that they were indeed booked for the next 3 days but they said they would be happy to groom Sally for me that day considering her condition as long as I was able to leave her there for 4-5 hours since they were squeezing her in. NO Problem! I took her in, they shaved her down, didn't try to brush out the matts just simply made her comfortable, she came back looking like a TOTALLY different dog, she was so happy jumping and running around. I will never ever go to another groomer in town because I have ALWAYS had a great experience at Arfin' Annie's. They are family owned and operated and every person there has always been very professional. Not to mention they were rated second best groom shop in Albuquerque last year! Arfin' Annie's will always be #1 in my book. I would recommend them to friends and family any day. Pros: They care very much for animals more

Never use this place again!! 3/31/2009

I will never take my dog skipper to this groomer again!! I thought this plae would be a good place to go, but I will never take him there again!! The people don't care if you have special requests or not. They tell you that your dog will be ready at 3 and then he was barely ready at 5!! The express service is a rip off too!! I paid extra for that service and he still isn't ready. Don't ever take your pet there unless you want him held hostage! Pros: none! Cons: never on time more

Our Dog's Best Friend 4/10/2008

We recently moved to Albuquerque and this groomer was highly recommended by friends. They have been wonderful with our two (very nervous) Shih Tzu's. We use the express service (2 hour) and the dogs are always ready on time, come home calm and happy and groomed exactly to our specifications. The staff is very attentive to the special needs of our dogs, very pleasant to work with and very professional. We are lucky to have found this groomer. Pros: Attentive to our needs more

Wonderful to work with 3/13/2008

We have been so pleased with the service we have received at Arfin' Annie's. We have 2 dogs that we take frequently, one of whom was hurt by a previous groomer and has been very afraid ever since. Lupe at Arfin' Annie's is so great with both dogs and always does exactly what we want. They worked hard to be gentle with the dog that was previously hurt and we're so thankful. We've never had a problem scheduling and can even count on frequent coupons! more

AKC registered Scottie's & Among the ""Best of the City 2008"" 1/14/2008

It was brought to my attention by a friend. That the groom shop I have been using for four years had a poor review on this site. I am very busy and normally do not take the time to do something like this, but I felt it was important. I have two Scottie's Megan and Sarah (AKC registered/Megan being a retired show dog). They have been going to Arfin' Annie's for four years and they look forward to going every month to be groomed. Arfin' Annie's keeps them in the AKC standard cuts for the breed. I used to show the breed so I am very familiar with the AKC standards when it comes to grooming. I consider the staff at Arfin' Annie's friends because they are so good to me and my dogs. That is why I took the time to post a review. Sincerely, Sam P.S. They were just rated in The Albuquerque Magazine among the ""Best of the City 2008"". They are the BEST in my book too! more

Scottish Terrier Nightmare 12/27/2007

Before making my dog's first grooming appointment, I called and asked if they had experience cutting a Scottish Terrier. I was told they knew how to do the cut. When I brought my dog in, I once again asked if they knew how to do the Scotty dog cut and again I was told they knew how. I instructed them to just trim the fur on his body (its was about 5-6 inches long) and to trim his eyebrows and shape the face and body overall to the Scottish terrier cut. When I came to pick up my dog, they had completely sheared off all of his fur over his entire body and legs. It was not a slight trim or shaping his cut to look like the cut Scottish terriers have, and the length they left on his body was about 1/2-1 inch over his entire body. Not only that, it was winter and the weather was averaging about 30-40 degrees during the day. His entire beautiful shiny black protective coat was completely gone, as well as any length at all on his legs. They even shortened the ""flag"" of fur coming off of his tail. They had no idea how to cut the Scottish terrier cut. I am upset because you put your trust in people when they claim they know how to do something and they don't. What was so disturbing is that they didn't think there was even a specific type of cut that my dog was supposed to have...they just took off all of his fur. They offered to refund my money to me but by then the damage was done. I went back and got my money but it is going to take months for it to grow back and it's December. Not only that, it will not grow back in the natural lengths that the Scotty dog's fur naturally grows because he was cut so strangely and areas where the fur is to be longer than other areas no longer exists....everything is all one length. This pet salon is well known and has been around for awhile, according to others. I was so shocked to discover that they claimed to know how to do something when it was clear they didn't. more
