Best Italian in Houston 6/3/2007

I took my girlfriend out to eat at Amici last weekend, and it was wonderful! It was definitely worth the drive from Houston. The entire dining experience was was perfect - the atmosphere, the cuisine, the service and the ambiance. The food was amazing and the menu even featured some of my favorite dishes from Italy, such as the Capellini Amatriciana. Thank goodness I had made reservations, the place was packed! We loved the cheesecake too! With all the chain restaraunts, it was so nice to dine at a place where the owners, Jeff and Bruce, meet and greet their guests. I will definitely be back soon! Pros: cuisine, decor, service Cons: really busy more

Great addition to Sugar Land, Check out the patio! 4/27/2007

The bar staff was attentive, friendly and welcoming The service in the restaurant was also very good. The calamari as an appetizer was delightful. Steak medium rare was not as tastful as is should have been and not the quality I expected. Very nice wine selection. The dining room is noisy. Too many hard surfaces and the conversation reverberates around the large opened dining area. I would recommend dining on the patio. Pros: Service, Menu, Wine Selection, Cons: Noisy, more

Classy in service, food and ambience 3/18/2007

Made mistake of not making reservations. Staff were totally obliging and wait was only 30 minutes but sitting at bar was enjoyable. Food exceptional, service effective without being pushy and total experience was exceptional. Highly recommended for any meal. Pros: Food, service, price Cons: parking, not too much room at bar area if waiting for table more

Why go anywhere else? 2/4/2007

I recently went to enjoy dinner with some friends at Amici, as recommended to me by a friend. As soon as i walked in, I couldn't help but notice the amazing decour throughout the restaurant. It was a modern yet classy spot, just what sugarland needed! I shared a few appetizers with my friends, and then moved on to the pasta course. Let me just say, the Gigli is WONDERFUL. Then, we moved on to the main course. I had the snapper, which was absolutely superb. We then decided to try a few desserts. Cheesecake was fabulous, but nothing could top the Ricotta cake (my mouth is watering right now just thinking about it). Overall, Service was great, courses were perfectly timed (not too rushed, not too slow), and I left completely satisfied. I will definetly be back! Pros: everything more

Good, But Room for Improvement.... 2/1/2007

Let me first say that overall I enjoyed dinner. My wife and I had just been to Italy for a vacation and were looking forward to a classy Italian meal. The food and service were, for the most part, very good. But after some raves I had read, there were a few lapses that left me a little disappointed. First the wine list, good American and Italian selections, but no vintages? Vintages matter and Mr. Vallone should know that. Second 2 wines identified as Sauvignon Blancs are actually white wine blends quite different from a Sauv. Blanc. The Antipasto bar had some good choices - the spinach and cheese patties were a standout, but no proscuitto which was available on other appetizers. Minor quibble. Solid minestrone soup and a well dressed salad of greens, oranges, goat cheese and pecans followed. Good portion size, not too much, not too little. But this was our first hint of trouble in service coordination. Our appetizer course was barely finished (by say 10 SECONDS) when our second course arrived. There's a thin line betweeen "prompt" and "rushed". If that approached the line, the next course pushed us over. To our surprise our meat course arrived next with our pasta. We had intended for them to be separate courses as is the norm in Italy. To his credit the waiter realized the error and offered to take it back. Not wanting to waste food, we kept them both and he comped the pasta. We selected the pasta Gigli because by it's description it seemed like a lighter option - peas, proscuitto, romano cheese and pasta. The cheese was a cheesy sauce. Very tasty but not as light as anticipated. My wife's beef medallions Enzo were more like 2 small filets, perfectly cooked, appealingly presented. I had Romano crusted veal which was good but a wee bit greasy. Two big pluses - vegetables are perfectly executed and not overcooked and soggy; and for such a nice place the prices are very reasonable. We'll return hoping for a true Italian slow meal. more

AWESOME 1/10/2007

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. We did not make reservation so we waited in the bar and enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited for our table. Our waiter was very friendly and was happy to answer question we had about the menu. My girlfriend ordered the italian style salad and the veal dish with cheese. She is still talking about how great the veal dish was. I ordered the soup with spinach and the pork entree. They were both very good. I was very full but we ordered dessert anyway. The chocolate cake with coconut was incredible. My girlfriend keeps talking about the veal dish and how she can't wait to go back and order it again. The prices were very reasonable and I look forward to making this a regular place for our nights out. more

Finally a GREAT Italian Restuarant Outside the Loop 1/10/2007

My wife and I have dined at Amici several times and have been impressed with the food and service each time we visit. On our last visit we decided to let the manager recommed some of his favorite wines. We were very pleased with his wine suggestion. Tommasi Rippacolo at $9 per glass was easily comparable to wines that I have had that were $70 a bottle. We then decided to try the Antipasta appetizer. We choose three items from the beautiful display. Each item was fresh and flavorful, we were not dissappointed. I ordered the Medallions of Beef which was cooked to perfection. The flavorful sauce enhanced rather than overpowered the flavor of the beef. My wife decided to try the Snapper Agrume and she said that it was wonderful. Finally, we decided to share a dessert. We choose the Strawberry Ricotta Cake. It was the perfect ending to an outstanding meal. Amici is a welcomed addition to Sugar Land!! There is no reason to drive into town for a superb dining experience. The food, service and prices will keep us coming back for more. On a side note...we were there Saturday evening when the reviewer below was making a scene. The vulgar language that this couple was using would make a sailor blush. They had obviously been drinking and were creating such a scene...I was very impressed by the manor in which management handled the situation. Management kept their calm and escorted the couple out, to the relief of all the patrons who were being subjected to their foul language. Pros: Food, Complimentary Valet, more

Good, but Needs Improvement 1/9/2007

My fiance and I went to Amici on a Sunday evening. We began with a decent glass of wine and a basket of rustic bread with oilve oil. The main dining room was modern and appealing, but at times felt like a cafeteria with its open floor and uniform rows of "4-top" tables. I started with a one-dimensional spinach and mixed greens salad with pecans and goat cheese. My fiance ordered the prosciutto-wrapped melon, which came on a salad plate, cut in long plain wedges, with the prosciutto slapped on top. No presentation, nothing special. We ordered 2 different snapper dishes and were surprised to find they arrived with little to no sides. His came with 3 spears of asparagus and mine with a sparse topping of tomatoes, garlic and crab in a thin "infused" tomato broth. I was a bit confused, wondering if there was a section of a la carte sides on the menu that I may have overlooked...until I spotted (to my horror) a round BUFFET-style table in the middle of the dining room with sides on it! I wouldn't find it an issue if the entrees weren't at the price point that they are. I also had no issue with the size of the portions either, but for what we were paying for the dinner, I didn't expect a buffet-style ANYTHING. My one rave would be the tiramisu. Rich, sweet, amazing. We did go back a second time to give it another try. My fiance ordered the lamb shank, which was very tender, but came with just a scoop of risotto. I ordered "handkerchief" pasta sheets, folded into pockets and stuffed with cheese and crab. Delicious as well, but came with nothing else. I can't deny that the food is good, but I'm still debating if it's good enough to warrant spending $300 for 2 people. I had very high expectations for this restaurant's food and service, but it wasn't what I'd call a good value for what we received. Pros: Delicious food, nice atmosphere Cons: Poor value, average service more

Finally a Top Houston Restaurant in Sugar Land 12/17/2006

No need to drive in to Houston anymore. This restaurant rivals the best in Houston. The menu avails itself to everyone and the service is above and beyond. Jeff and Bruce go out of their way to make sure that everyone has a fine dining experience. Pros: Service, Ambience Cons: None more

Great food Great service 11/9/2006

Jeff and Bruce have done a great job. Sugar Land needed a restaurant like this. The food was like being in a New York Italian restaurant. The appitizers were awsome and the Snapper main course was also really good. We sampled the butternut squash raviolo and will have that next time. We recommend highly. Pros: It was all good Cons: none more
