Amber Oaks

I should have known we were doomed when we pulled in the driveway of Amber Oaks. The neon ""motel"" sign stating they were open and the paint pulling from the metal panels on the roof gave all of us an uneasy feeling and left us questioning why we needed to dress up for this restaurant. We debated entering the building based on the outer appearance and all agreed the experience could not be too bad. WRONG! As soon as we entered the building we were smacked in the face by the overwhelming smell of cigars. This was quickly followed by a smell resembling a bowling alley or funeral home. As we made our way through the restaurant, the familiar odor of nursing home welcomed us as we were seated in the dining room. The decor was VERY dated, the menus were crumbling and had handwritten price changes on the pages, the table linen looked like a drape, the napkins were paper, and the silverware was dirty. Aside from the unappealing decor and odor, the food was unappetizing and significantly overpriced! I could not believe this restaurant was charging $26-$30 for steak, which they ran out of by 5:00 P.M. We ordered dishes that came highly recommended from our server, but we were horribly disappointed with taste and quality and did not attempt to finish our meals. The food was overcooked and tough while sauces were greasy, heavy, and improperly made. It seemed as though most of the food was thrown in the microwave prior to being served to us. Once we left, we all stood on the sidewalk of the restaurant and reflected on the experience. My husband summed it up by proclaiming ""what the f*** was that?"" I would never eat at this establishment again! I agree with little C, Amber Oaks would be an excellent candidate for Kitchen Impossible! more

I found this place on Groupon and thougt it looked like a great new place to try. I called for reservations and the person on the phone was very nice. She took my name and how many in the party and told me a little about the place. I was really excited to try this place. I had my entire family with me. When we arrived and walked in, the place was like a blast from the past. It actually looked and smelled like a nursing home. We were told to dress casual so we were dressed nice and when we were seated at the table, the silverware is so cheap you can bend it between your fingers. They have paper napkins and the table cloth looked like a curtain. My groupon was for 4 free dinners and 2 appetizers. (They would only allow one groupon not both that I had) 3 of us ordered the porter house steak because the waitress said it was sooooo good. The waitress came back to the table and said they only had 1 porter house left so 2 of us reordered. When the food arrived it was awful. 8 out of 8 had a bad plate of food. The steak was over cooked it was like leather..... the chicken parm had the same sauce as all the other pastas and the chicken cordon bleu was rock hard, the chicken picatta was pure butter and concentrated lemon juice it was made from chicken tenderloins not chicken breast. I was very disappointed in this place and will not go back. 'when we got the bill they were charging for porter house steaks we did not get. I think they were trying to make up for the groupon. I really think they had the porter house steak but didn't want to give more than one away. This place needs to be on restaurant impossible. they need a make over for the decor and the food. I don't know why you have to dress up to go here nothing was special about the menu or the restaurant at all. 1 is to high of a rating. more

I was planning to have my reception here until my fiance received info that he had to go away with the marine corp. So we now had to cancel our dream wedding. I looked over all my paper work with amber oaks nothing said we couldnt get the room fee refunded. I then called Elka she was not there but was told there would be no problem getting the money back. I later spoke to Elka she said no refund that she must have forgot to give me the paper on refunds. $200 later I learned my lesson get it in writing ask a lot of questions and dont deal with shady people more
