Great muffins too! 9/2/2010

If you are looking for something more substantial to fill your belly with than just a cup of coffee or tea, try one of their daily soups or a bagel with cream cheese and tomato. I ordered the white bean soup and one of these days, I am going to turn my kitchen into a culinary chemistry lab trying to figure out all of the ingredients in this soup so that I don't have to rely on somebody else to make it for me. They have a full menu of things I'll try in the future. more

love the scones!!! 7/3/2009

Shelly always recommends the best scones!! I love the tea and cupcakes too! It makes me want my own wings!! Pros: banana butterscotch scones! pumpkin scones! oh my god! Cons: having to wait for table more

Better Chocolate Places in town 5/26/2009

I thought Alice Tea Cup was a pretty cute place, but I still love Allison Nelson's Chocolate Bar for the best chocolate in town! Their new location in the West Village has a great nostalgia influenced ambiance with the BEST varieties of gourmet chocolates around! They just moved to 19 Eighth Avenue between 12th Street & Jane, NYC (West Village). Its a must try, I guarantee you'll love it! more

Perfect Tea Spot 11/29/2008

I absolutely love Alice's! I'm a big tea drinker, and I'm never disappointed with their tea selection. The scones are the best I've ever had, and the soups and sandwiches are all delicious. I also love to come here for brunch--the eggs benedict and French toast are outstanding. If you come here on the weekend, be prepared for a long wait (we're talking up to two hours), but they'll take your phone number and you can walk to the park or do some shopping in the neighborhood until they call you. The servers can seem a little frazzled sometimes, but I've never had bad service here. Even on the busiest mornings, they're always happy to answer questions and make recommendations, and I've never felt rushed. Definitely make a reservation if you're coming with a larger group, and if not, I recommend coming during the week, when it's less chaotic. Even if you do end up waiting, I promise it's worth it! Pros: Great tea selection, delicious food, cozy ambience Cons: Long waits more

Cute little knook to relax and eat 10/25/2008

I LOVE this place. Alice's tea cup is soooo cool and relaxing. I bring my neices and nephew here for breakfast and they absolutely love it. The food is great - a huge selection of teas (green, white, black etc). Try the hot chocolate - soo devine in cold weather. I like the eggs benedict and pancakes here. Also, the crepes are awesome. You can enjoy lunch here as well as they offer lots of tea sandwiches to choose from. One year, my neice celebrated her 5th birthday party in the back room. Her friends dressed up like princesses and had tea sandwiches and hot chocolate. They also had a face painter and a person dressed up like Alice in Wonderland to read stories to them. This place is amazing!!! more

bad service 10/2/2008

i came here on a saturday afternoon with my friends. (we made reservations before hand) not all my friends were there yet and they said we had to wait until the rest of us came (only three more ppl). plus they told us we had to wait for our table...an hour later we said whats up with our table- we had reservations. they said it is very busy we might have to wait two hours. the girl at the front desk didn't even seem to sh*t. we were angry complained and didn't get anything out of that!! Pros: i like the fries Cons: rather eat at the east side location more

An english tea any time of the day in a nice and comfortable atmosphere 6/12/2008

Oh my goodness gracious, heavens to mergatroid and then some!!! This place is sooo cute and sweet!!! Pros: A relaxing and comforting atmosphere, nice staff, wide tea selection and nice food. Cons: We've waited a bit on the weekend and some evenings, but mid week is usually a shorter wait... more

Such a cute place! 5/7/2008

I love Alice's Tea Cup. I can't believe it took me four years to finally go since it's right around the corner from my apartment. And now I'm addicted to their scones...and their chocolate cake...and their tea. The only room for improvement that I see is that they should put in a communal table to perhaps cut down on the wait on the weekends....it can get pretty long. more

Great brunch and daytime date spot 2/15/2008

Guys: If you're looking to win over a lady on your first daytime date, this is the place to do it. The operative word is ""adorable"" -- think mismatched furnishings, kiddie murals and a whole lot of Upper West Side younglings underfoot. The tea list tends toward herbals and British varieties, but it's without a doubt one of the longest in town. And the food menu is appropriately charming -- don't leave without trying the French toast bites. If you can get a seat for Sunday brunch, you won't be disappointed. Pros: Charming decor and clientele Cons: Long wait, doesn't take reservations for parties of two or fewer more

I LOVE this place! It's a jewel in the city! 11/13/2007

I LOVE Alice's Tea Cup. Starting with the adorable purple facade and little tea shop in the front. The magic continues as you are transported into the world of Alice in Wonderland, with quaint little wooden seats and tables and delicate china tea cups. Quote from the famous story by Lewis Carroll decorate the walls. You can get almost any type of tea made for you that you can think of, and I'm sure quite a few you NEVER thought of. Ask about the scones of the day, they are an UNBELIEVABLE indulgence. Tasty sandwiches, appetizers, soups, cakes, cookies, whatever you order, it is always yummy! Pros: Yummy food, huge tea list, great ambiance, try the scones! Cons: It's a small place with not much seating, so if you come at a bad time, you'll wait a while. more

Best scones EVER 9/7/2007

I love Alice's Tea Cup. My roommates and I go as often as we can. You won't have a better scone anywhere; they've ruined it for me having them anywhere else. Good service; the waiters always give good recommendations off their loooong tea list. Try it, it's really a fun place! Pros: amazing scones, tea and service Cons: long waits on the weekend; definitely go midweek if you can! more

Great find! 8/30/2007

I just moved to New York and I was so happy to find this place! I have been to all three of the alice's locations in the past couple of weeks and was consistently happy. The menu is simple yet interesting and my meals were all great! I loved the berry scones - a must try. The wait was kinda long at their newest location on 81st over the weekend but worth it, I thought - my friends and I just walked around and they called five minutes before the table was ready, so that was easy. The scones at 81st were great but ot AS good as they were at 64th or 73rd, I noticed, but it's new so maybe they are just working out some kinks. Anyway, it's certainly become my favorite place in New York and really does feel like an escape from the norm. Also, my sister brought her five year old daughter with us to the 64th and Lexington one and she flipped out! I won uncle points that day! Very kid friendly without being kid themed! (Bring a date or a kid and you'll be their hero!) check out breakfast - it was delicious and fast, much faster than I thought it would be for pumpkin pancakes and scones benedict. (I tried a tea martini with my breakfast, that was pretty cool... but i hear they only have a liquor license at 64th... bummer!) Pros: ambience, food, choices, service Cons: wait for tables, alcohol only at 64th and lexington more

Tea & Food is Very Good; Mgt. is the Problem. 8/11/2007

As I stated in my title line, the food is worthwile, but we had problems with the ""management."" Our party of 5 arrived and we were told that the table of 5 was just given the check. We waited for 40 minutes and were placed at a table that didn't fit five. We asked if we could move another small table together with ours. They said ""no,"" and that they were about to move us to the other table for ""5"" we were waiting for the whole time. When we looked at that table, there was no way we were going to fit on it (it was more of a table for 3, or maybe 4. WE ENDED UP PRETENDING THAT WERE A PARTY OF 4 WITH ANOTHER SEPARATE PARTY OF 1 SITTING NEXT TO US. YES, THIS WAS WHAT WAS REQUIRED! BASICALLY, THERE ARE NO TABLES AT THIS LOCATION THAT ACCOMODATES 5 ADULTS. Pros: Fun Atmosphere; Tea was Good Cons: Mgt Terrible; Most Service Poor; Impossible for 5 or More more
