Poor Service 1/30/2011

We dined there on 1/7/2011 and our party of four was disappointed with the service. The waiter told us about the special and all four of us ordered it only to find out they had one special left by 6:00p. So, three of us had to order something else. Or meals took forever to prepare. After about an hour, the waiter advised it would only be ""7 more minutes."" Another 45 minutes later our meals finally arrived. Obviously there were problems in the kitchen and normally in these situations, the waiter would be apologizing for the problem and offering free desserts or some other compensation. When I called the manager later to discuss our disappointment, I was told he was too busy to talk to me. There are better alternatives in the local area. more

Good Meal -- Got what I expected 6/1/2010

I organized a family celebration dinner for 15 on a Saturday. I chose the restaurant via e-mail search for it's proximity to my parents's house. (I live in the Bay Area.) I had driven past before, but never dined. I spoke to Lisa regarding our reservation. She designed a menu to suit our budget with a choice of 3 entrees, appetizers, warm bread, soup or salad and non-alcoholic drinks. Customized menus were printed especially for our celebration. The food was good, presentation was great, wait service was very good, bartender mixed a good drink and hostess was friendly. They allowed me to come a little early to decorate with balloons per Lisa's helpful suggestions. My family enjoyed their dinner. We had a good time and most importantly, I was not surprised by unforseen additional costs. I received exactly what I expected and was very satisfied with our event. No fuss. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant for your elegant event. Pros: Good Waitservice and Hostess Cons: A little pricey more

Do Not Trust That Your Event Will Be Taken Care OF!!! 8/31/2009

Do not trust that your event will be taken care! My son is getting married in the town of Loomis this October. I phoned several of my friends that work in the restaurant field to get a referral to a nice local restaurant and ended up making arrangements to have the dinner at The New Horseshoe Bar and Grille. \r Without going into all the details – I was told one thing and reality was another! Over a period of four weeks, I spoke to the Events Director three times and visited the restaurant once. Taking notes and making sure I had all my details taken care of, I ended my search for the perfect place. I asked to give a deposit and was told no need. I made sure every time we spoke that this date was held for us, as I felt uncomfortable not leaving a deposit or having anything in writing. I made an appointment to meet the chef – which is the owner – and go over the menu for the dinner. That day I was a few miniutes early, so the Director and I started to go over details, thus coming to the conclusion that she had told me the minimum for my dinner would be $1,500, when in reality it would be $3,500!!!! I almost fell out of my seat! Needless to say I was very upset. Looking through all of my notes from our previous conversations, I was clear what the minimum cost would be and planned accordingly. I asked her who in their right mind would of ever thought that $3,500 for a dinner for twenty – twenty five people would be okay? I got up and on my way out asked her to have the chef personally call me. Instead, I received a phone call from her asking if we were interested in having our dinner before the rehearsal. This of course made no sense – who wants to eat at 3:30 in the afternoon? I told her to tell the chef – “Thanks, but no thanks!” I never received an apology from her, or a phone call from the owner to smooth things over. I have talked to several other people in the restaurant business and will pass the word about how unprofessional, unorganized and how very little care they took to make things right. All I can say is good luck with your new restaurant!\r more

WOW!!!!!!!!!! 2/25/2009

I was a food critic for many years before I retired, and I have to say, that I have not had an experience quite like this one before! This is a diamond in a haystack. All the fine dining quality that you expect from a five star restaurant, with prices that are affordable. We visited on a Friday night, and did not make a reservation. Unfortunatly they were booked..... or at least we thought. The hostess sat us in the bar area, right next to a guitar player. (Great! I thought, this is going to be horrible!!) We were immediatly greeted, and brought our drinks promptly. As the night went on the food, service, music, and atmosphere only got better. I never thought we would find a place that feels like a special occasion, a everyday restaurant, and a hang-out all at the same time. We will be back, again, and again, and again. Pros: Food more

Please...Go to Subway Across the Street 1/25/2009

We love mushrooms, but the $6 mushroom soup was disgusting. It was full of long, rubbery stems. The $12 mushroom hamburger was at least 1/3 smaller than the bun, and had 3 mushroom slices on it. When we asked our server why it was so small, she said she didn't know and, ""maybe we switched meat companies."" Switched meat companies? What does that have to do with a teeny weeny patty on a much bigger bun? Put two of them together! The $24 salmon medallions were also nothing to call home about. I am very disappointed I wasted $70 there. (Also had a $6.50 beer and $9.50 glass of wine.) \r \r Plus, since we did not have a reservation, we were seated in the bar near the entrance, which is drastically different than the white tablecloth dining room. Holding a conversation without anyone near you hearing was impossible. It was so quiet we had to whisper to each other. Although I must say that multiple other couples did arrive without reservations and were seated in the dining room while the two of us were there. Pros: Ok service, but made excuses for food. Cons: Food, price, ambience. more

This bistro is one fine restaurant 11/19/2008

The New Horseshoe Bar Grill is recently reopened. Hence the word NEW in the name. The new owners have created a fine establishment, based on first-rate service, super delicious servings, all done in a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is an old brick building in downtown Loomis. \r Fresh is the word of the day here. The manager told me he seeks out the freshest produce, preferring locally grown whenever available. His one-plate dinner offerings include steaks, pastas, fresh seafood, salads and sandwiches. Since we were there on a Tusday night, wife ordered the $19.50 prime rib special. She was surprised to get a big serving with potatoes and vegetables, plus a dinner salad and a fancy desert (which she had boxed to take home). I tackled the pork chop entree which was more than I could handle, so I, took something home. Great food. I took my golfing pals for lunch on another day and they all raved about the place. \r I will be going back often as it is not far from my home in Roseille. \r Service is commendable. Servers are knowledgable, polite, friendly and efficient. I might say all of the abovd. Food is outstandng. Highly recommended. Pros: Unusual location in rural town. Have to look for it. Horseshoe Bar is marked on i-80 Cons: No real parking lot but streets are usuallly deserted by dinner time. more

Delicious Surprise in Loomis 11/2/2008

My friends and I had planned to visit this restaurant from reviews from Sacramento Magazine. The magazine listed faults with the restaurant be we decided to try it anyway. We were very pleased to have ignored the reviews. The food was very fresh and hearty. The portions were big and tasty. Their was lots to choose from on the menu---it was a carnivore's dream. But also their were pasta and vegetarian dishes. I would like to see a change in starters---but I always love the small plate restaurants and also some gooey desserts. A big thumbs up from all six of us! Pros: ambience and service excellent--everyone very friendly and helpful Cons: no designated parking but lots of parking available on streets-different desserts and more of a variety of appetizers more
