Ajia Japanese Fusion

The food was far from satisfactory. The soup was salty and has a taste of MSG. The fish were not fresh. The rice balls were the largest I've ever seen. One will easily get full with only a few such sushi pieces. Generally speaking, the sushi were even not as good as those offered in ordinary supermarket or buffet restaurants. As for the service, this is by far the worst service I've ever experienced in my life. The servers hardly paid any attention to us (How ridiculous!). We had to wait long before being guided to the seats. And we even had to bring our order to the waitress by ourselves since she had totally ignored us. We ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi but we were declined to get a 3rd plate (we are not fat pig and we didn't order much for every plate. We only wanted to order two more pieces of sushi as our 3rd plate). The reason was that we had one or two small pieces of rice left on our plate. The hostess said she would charge us $2 for each piece of rice if we insisted to order more. At checkout, a mandatory 15% gratuity was added to my check. I am just curious how such a restaurant can survive till today with so terrible food and service! I will never return and will stay far away from this restaurant. I dont know when the other customers have been going here, but i've been to Ajia many times and i love their sushi. The service was good, and the waitress was very nice. They also have this amazing deal of $8.95 lunch special. Their fish are fresh, unlike other sushi places i've been to. Moreover, besides the sushi, i've also tried their seafood udon, and its the best. I dont know where the other critics been, because Ajia is the best of all sushi places in the universe!!! :3 more

I went last night with a large party and the food was amazing. The all you can eat sushi for 21 dollars was awesome, all freshly prepared by the chef. The only draw back was the service. Several times I had to ask our server, a twenty something year old asian girl, for even the smallest requests like another sushi card. She constantly ignored us and even gave horrible excuses and had a rude attitude. I asked her several times for a separate check with what i had ordered and she blatantly refused to listen to me. I asked an older woman the same thing and she said that it would be no problem, yet this girl told me, ""SHE NO SPEAK ENGLISH"" what the hell is that about? i clearly spoke and heard her speak in english, so this bitch was just bullshitting with me. These ignorant and rude servers ruined my experience and from now on i will choose to go to other sushi restaurants, where i am treated better as a customer. Ajia is by far the worst sushi restaurant I have ever been in in the city of Philadelphia. I went there with two of my close girlfriends for a quick lunch. We all ordered the lunch special which included three maki sushi rolls. We requested that instead of crabstick, we could have real crab in our 2 california rolls. The waitress told us that it would be a $2 extra charge for each roll and we all agreed that this was fine. Once the sushi came out, we commented on how they didn't use real crab and thought maybe they had forgotten. We went through our lunch and once the bill came. we realized that they still charged us extra. I explained to the waitress that they made a mistake and that we should not have to pay for the crab since it wasn't used. She basically yelled at us and said that we were wrong and called over her sushi chef. He came over and started yelling and screaming at us. He brought over a crabstick, which looked EXACTLY the same as what was in the roll (mind you, i've been many sushi spots and this was not real crab). He put his finger into my friends face and accused us of calling him a liar. I asked to speak with a manager and he said he was the manager. Baffled. I tried to explain to him that we weren't calling him a liar but we were not satisfied with what we were given. He began cursing us off, and called the cops! I couldn't believe it- all over $4 of imitation crabsitck. He told them that we refused to pay. We tried to negotiate with him, but it was pointless- he wanted the experts aka philadelphia cops, to tell us that we were wrong. He then thought that we were going to ""beat him up""- I was astonished. How he managed to think that three petite women were going to beat him up in a restaurant is beyond me. We just paid and left. I couldn't believe that a MANAGER/OWNER of a restaurant would ever speak to a customer that way. Even, if we were mistaken there was definately a better way to deal with the situation. This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. After ordering the all-you-can-eat sushi menu with a friend, we finished up and had a few small pieces left on our plate. The waitress came and took away our food, and then she brought the bill. We had been charged extra for the leftover food! Not once did anyone tell us about this policy before we ordered our food. It was not written on the all-you-can-eat sushi menu that we were given, nor did anyone tell us verbally. Furthermore, the waitress took away our remaining food without informing us of the policy, when we still would have had a chance to eat it. When we complained that this was unfair, the manager came out and yelled at us and threatened to physically assault us. Pros: absolutely none! The hostess and waitress were so rude it completely ruined my meal. They were both grouchy with scowls on their faces the entire time. When it came time to pay the bill they then informed me they have a minimum charge amount of $20 (which is apparently indicated on a very small, flimsy print-out posted on the wall). I believe this minimum is in violation of card holder agreements but that didn't stop the hostess from yelling at me in front of the entire restaurant from across the room. The all-you-can-eat is good. No problem with that but I hate bad service, espically rude serivce. The server started clearing the table after I asked for for the check, but she then told me to eat my last peice of sushi so she could take that plate. This is simply unacceptable!! I understand why their service is very poor... Upon receiving the check I noticed a 15% gratuity added, which is a requirement. I don't think its posted anywhere so when they try to stick it to you, fight it!!! They are misleading and do not know how to run a restaurant or be polite!!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!..... well unless you go prepared the worst service, totally take full advantage of thier sushi bar, and are ok with the 15% gratuity. The reason to go to Ajia is for the ALL U CAN EAT deal, at dinner time about $20 +tax+tip... For two to eat costs about $60. You really can Eat all that you want, but beware, like the other reviewer says: SERVICE IS SLOW. I think they want to go as slow as possible so that you fill up (or just get impatient) and leave before really raping them of their delicious sushi. Which is very good. I've never had a problem with them not completing my order, but I do feel sort of ashamed if we get more than 2 plates, because the servers probably think we're fat pigs... But if they say ""All u can eat"" then I dont want to get any dirty looks when I order thirds. I love sushi, I could eat it all day if they would let me. So I wish the servers were a little more friendly. everyone who works there acts like they are in prison. I would say maybe it's a cultural thing, but I've been to other, livelier sushi places. So, this is one of a few places in the city that does the endless sushi thing. It's reasonably priced, around 20 bucks, but the service is so horrendous that you'll leave before you've had your fill. The last time I went my friend and I were in the restuarunt for two and a half hours and they had only taken two sushi orders, and both were given to us incomplete!!! I'm never going again.
