For those who have shopped at B&H and found it overwhelming, consider stopping by Adorama. The store doesn't offer the same range of products as B&H but if you're in the market for photography supplies, chances are they'll be able to handle the vast majority of your needs. The small, cramped store is easy to navigate and the most common purchases (chemicals, paper, inkjet paper, etc) can be grabbed off the shelf. The prices may be slightly higher than B&H but for film it may be about a dime per roll of film. Where I feel the store shines is the used department which is well stocked and features very friendly staff. I have bought and sold equipment several times from Adorama and have only had positive experiences. Check their website before showing up to save some time. As with B&H the store does close for sabbath (Friday afternoon and all day Saturday) and all Jewish holidays so keep this in mind when planning your trip. more

Adorama is a great shop for cameras and supplies. They sell almost everything in there for the professionals. They have film and digital cameras and the staff is pretty knowledgeable. They sell alot of development equipment. In the back of the store they rent cameras and equpiment if you are in need of rentals. There pricing is not bad. They also sell used cameras and they are kept in really good condition. more

This is a nice photo equipment store located in lower Manhattan. Prices are a bit more expensive than the more popular B & H, but unless you're willing to spend an extra 30 minute train ride and fare, then I recommend you stay put. They carry just about everything related to photography from 35mm films to photo enlargers. Their staff on hand is knowledgeable and friendly. The store itself is quite small but they manage to fill it with all the necessary items. This is strictly an equipments store so if you need to develop film, just take a stroll outside you;re sure to find many as this is the so-called photo district. During the day you'll notice atlot of students here as Parsons is just blocks away. Like B & H, Adorama is closed on Saturdays. Check their schedule as I believe store hours are short. Street parking only, if it can be found. Convenient to N train and Union Square. more

it is amaizing how the hasidic pepole took control on all digital and cameras stores in new york. every big photo shop in the city is run by hasidic, well is it mater? they have great deals. on the street level they have the retail store but on the second level they run a diving retail store. they all pretty nuch profeshional and will help you make the best deal, it is cheaper there then on a big chain as circuit city and stuff. so go there buy camera and go to travel so u can use it. more
