Perfect for a business lunch, a romantic evening, or a get together with friends 1/9/2007

I originally came here for lunch with business partners a couple weeks ago. It was the perfect arena for our meeting. The room is beautiful and, at lunch, fairly reserved. We asked for a large table and although we were only three people, they readily obliged us. The servers were knowledgable and friendly without being obtrusive; the service was well-paced and the food was delicious. They have a pre-fixe lunch that was a great deal. We agreed that we would definately come back. Pros: Food, ambience, service Cons: Pricey, although normal for the area, and pre-fixe menus are great deals more

Refreshing new approach to Italian dining 1/9/2007

Abboccato continues to dazzle us with it's outstanding pastas and a wine list that perfectly compliments it. Pros: Intimate setting and very friendly service Cons: We had to ask for the music to be turned down more

great experience 1/8/2007

I had an all around amazing experience when I went to Abboccato. When I walked in with my family we were greeted right away by two lovely ladies and were seated right away. The service was incredible, our waiter made us feel like we were all he cared about and could answer every question we had about the menu or wines. He was there guiding us through our whole experience. The food was breath taking. Each course was unique and tasteful, especially the lamb chops. My mother had the chicken and told me that she was so happy, because it tasted just like the chicken she would order when she was in Italy. Now every time she comes to visit she always reminds me to make a reservation I highly recommend Abboccato for any occasions Pros: service and food more

Abboccato continues to dazzle us with it's outstanding pastas and a wine list that perfectly compliments it. What my wife and I cannot get enough of is the Spaghetti Amatriciana, as good or better as Matriciannella in Rome. Also their Spaghettini with razor clams, Bortaga and toasted bread crumbs. We had a similiar dish in Sicily and Abboccato's definitely rivaled it. They also have an unusual pasta called Casunziei, it resembles a half moon pasta with a filling of beets and Gorgonzola Dolce tossed with Lombard Butter and poppy seeds; it's seducitive and sublime. As an amateur chef, I have attempted all of these at home and my wife has made it very clear to me not to give up my day job. Kudos to the chef. Alexander Pros: Intimate setting and very friendly service Cons: We had to ask for the music to be turned down more

Very Average Italian Fare 1/8/2007

I was very much looking forward to my visit to this restaurant because I am a fan to Oceana.. But as I was leaving I was never looking forward to coming back. The food that I had was average and the prices were anything but ... My main course was a striped bass that was over cooked and accompanied by some very salty vegtables underneath. The beet ravioli was good by itself but with the Lombad butter sauce the saltiness took away from the taste of the beets and the homemade pasta. On the otherside, the ricotta gnocchi had almost no taste that we didnt finish. Service was good considering we were the only table there for most of the meal. Pros: Location, service, and wine list Cons: Pricey unsatisfying food more

Uncommonly Good 1/2/2007

Until I ate at Abboccato I refused to eat at Italian restaurants, thinking How good could pasta be? Abboccato showed me the way. Whether osso bucco, beef cheeks, butternut ravioli or some ingenious gnocchi, Abboccato never disappoints. Perfect location for a pre- or post- City Center event, and the martinis are pretty good, too. Service can be hit or miss, but with this menu, that's secondary. more

Forward and delicious Italian cooking. Try the beet/gorgonzola stuffed raviolli. If you want spagetti and meatballs this is not your place. Also has a tenor for a waiter who does a fabulous Happy Birthday. more

wonderful food 11/25/2006

Loud rock music in an elegant setting? Conversation was drowned out and I could hardly hear the waiter. When we complained a fight ensued between our obliging waiter and the maitre d - who obviously wanted to hear his music! Waiter sat down with another party and we had to ask the coat check girlfor our bill. Not worth the money even thought the food is terrific! more

Mario Batali would be proud! 7/20/2006

Abboccato seems to be one of the best kept secrets in NYC. The head chef is one of Mario Batali's sou's from Esca, and with another Batali restaurant manager as the owner, they have created a unique and classy Italian experience. The food is excellent and innovative. I had the best lamb I have ever tasted in my life here, and the veal was so moist that they actually carved it at the table with a SPOON! The wine list is 100% Italian, and their wine director is very knowledgable and will help you to make first class pairings. The Sunday family dinner menu is about the best deal in NYC for what you get. The desserts are amazing...pastry chef David Carmichael, yes you have seen him on Food Network, and he did Katie Kouric's good-bye cake...creates combinations that are unlike anything I have ever tasted. The Vanilla Bean Panacotta with cherries, and the Pachugo di Pistachio are just about the best things I have ever eaten...and then there is the Bumboloni! Unbelievable! The service is so attentive and special. They will create your evening for you and design a menu especially for your party upon making a reservation if you request it. You can really just sit back and enjoy your evening. They are incredible. Pros: Attentive staff, amazng desserts, HUGE wine list Cons: Gets a bad rep for being too pricey. more

The food was tasy......what there was of it! 4/24/2006

We thought the food was quite tasty. But these owners have taken the selection of "micro greens" far too seriously. I ordered this salad and was appalled to see a melon ball size salad placed carefully upon this over sized white plate. I then anticipated the taste of the taglitelle bolognese, and it appeared on an equally large plate and was a touch larger than the "micro" salad. The dessert was exactly the same. Ok, so American portions are too large anyway---but this took the opposite to a ridiculous level. We left hungry. Not worth the price in my opinion. Pros: ambience, service, decor Cons: portion size more

What a treat! 2/13/2006

We went to Abboccato for a Valentines day celebration. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere completely relaxing! We especially liked the option of getting a half-portion of pasta between our appetizer and entree. The staff was incredibly friendly. We'd highly recommend for special occasions. Pros: Great food, Friendly staff, Intimate setting Cons: Expensive more
