Search Yelp for more accurate reviews of this establishment. Complete breakdown of communication on staff's part and complete deception on Dr. Prutton's part will prevent me from ever entrusting them to treat any animal I care for. Dr. Prutton is simply out to line his pockets with as much money as he can. From minimum wage employees who are clueless to padded bills that are not discussed with clients before hand. To add insult to injury, my cat was overly medicated to the point that he vomited 5 times and defecated on himself, up to 8 hours after his neutering. I watched him closely though the night, ready with water and food, in hopes he would ingest SOMETHING to dilute the anesthesia and UNAUTHORIZED vaccinations in his blood stream. When I brought these concerns to Dr. Prutton's attention, instead of listening, he lied to my face about what ""we"" agreed upon, smirked and gave a lecture on his financial bottom line. To quote ""It takes $2.00 a minute just for me to break even"". Well, Dr. Prutton, (who I am supposed to believe is financially hurting after ripping off his patients) perhaps you should care more about your clients than your bottom line and you wouldn't have to waste your time on lectures. Minus 5 stars if Yelp would allow, truly a nightmarish experience, I am shocked the BBB hasn't investigated this place. more

Don't try and empty your wallet with each visit. 6/30/2011

Decided to make Abbey Pet Hospital permanent. They don't try and empty your wallet with each visit. My dog was hit by a car last week and he received excellent care and lots of compassion by the doctors who saved his life and from the ladies at the front desk. more

TERRIBLE ? DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE 2/20/2011

In my opinion there is something wrong with the reviews you see about Abbey Pet Hospital here. I took my pet to this place, based on ?good reviews,? and had a terrible experience. You shouldn?t have to worry about whether your pet is going to survive his visit to the doctor!  Isn?t it rather suspicious that the reviews here are all much shorter than most real reviews and also basically all 5 stars? And aren?t they just a little bit too over-the-top glowing, too? Look at real reviews on most businesses: it is not like that with any group of genuine reviews.\r \r The doctors and staff are totally unprofessional and uncaring. This place is just terrible. I checked around and found that many other people have had awful experiences with Abbey Pet Hospital, too. Look at the comprehensive reviews on other websites, here for example: \r \r http://www.yelp.com/biz/abbey-pet-hospital-el-cerrito \r \r This will give you a real-world idea of the sickening things that go on at this place.\r \r D more

WORST VET IN THE BAY AREA 2/19/2011

We?ve owned many pets, over 30 years, and have been to dozens of Veterinary offices all over Northern California. This is BY FAR the worst veterinary office anywhere! We brought our sick cat in for a blood test. Knowing that it would be expensive we asked for a complete price quote beforehand. Once they got our cat in and drew his blood, however, they demanded a price nearly twice the quoted amount, to complete the test.\r \r The office staff became angry and rude when we politely objected. The doctor proceeded to snap at and argue with us, and with his own office staff. The office staff themselves were extremely impolite and unprofessional to both of us, especially Lacey who repeatedly verbally abused us both with a mocking, haranguing tone. There was not a moment?s concern, from the doctor or any staff, for our sick pet. \r \r Before bringing your pet here, do some research. Read reviews on other sites (e.g. Yelp)?a pattern emerges! We wish we?d read them, before coming here. The more

Read reviews on other sites (e.g. Yelp)—you will find that they conflict with the apparently good reviews on this site, and a pattern emerges! We wish we’d done a little research, before coming here. The only thing that the doctors and office staff at this Veterinary office care about is money. They obviously care nothing about the animals, about the owners, or about conducting their business in a professional manner. We’re reporting them to the American Veterinary Medical Association and the State Board, and encourage everyone else who’s had similar experiences to do the same. This place should not be in business. PLEASE—IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET DO NOT BRING THEM HERE, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. more

Relief and excitement 1/4/2011

My husband and I first came to Abbey Pet Hospital at the recommendation of one of the local rescue organizations. We had just adopted skinny ?Little Love? from the pound. This one really needed our care. We made an appointment and our first experience with Dr. Prutton was a positive one. We updated all the vaccinations and had the appropriate tests performed. We had everything taken care of within 20-30 minutes. They have all the in-house blood machines. Dr. Pruttn also provided useful information on territorial aggression associated with bringing a new pet home. I thought the facility was nice too. We left with the feeling of relief and excitement. more

The staff is very helpful. 12/29/2010

I chose Abbey Pet Hospital based on several reviews. The staff is very helpful and the wait wasn?t long. The three times I was in the office there were lots of people with their pets; they all seemed to like the vets. I see Dr. Virk with both of my dogs and my one cat. She is very nice and has been able to explain very complex medical issues in a simple straight forward way. My dog needed an ultrasound to diagnose a problem in her stomach. I am very pleased with the medical attention my pets have received at Abbey Pet Hospital. The staff at the front desk are all so beautiful. more

Abbey Pet Hospital is terrific. 12/27/2010

"" I am a dog trainer who has known and worked with Dr. Prutton for many years. I work with several rescue groups and personally own 6 dogs. Abbey Pet Hospital is terrific and we are lucky to have it right in El Cerrito. I feel comfortable bringing my gang to Abbey Pet Hospital. They do their best to meet the needs of every animal that walks through the door. The newest member of my family ?Rodney? just received his last round of shots, he already weighs 40 pounds and he?s only 3 months old! The girls at the front desk love him. I give Abbey Pet Hospital the highest recommendation. "" more

Just wanted to thank everyone. 12/23/2010

Just wanted to thank everyone at Abbey Pet Hospital for caring for my entire extended family. You were just great with my sweet (aggressive) 13 pound ?Lilly?. I know she can be handful. The surgery you did to repair her eyelid after the fight she got in at the dog park was just terrific and the follow-up care including the many phone exchanges went way beyond normal care. Thanks for taking such good care of my little one. more
