Best

I've tried all the other so called turkish and mediterrenean restaurants, and a la turca is the best. loved everything i tried from appetizers to pides, sandwiches to kebab platte...

Worst

This is some of the blandest food I've ever eaten. Everything is cucumber, meat and bread. I ordered a chicken and mushroom pie and didn't get onions or peppers, like it said on...

best kebabs 4/7/2007

Shady neighborhood, wonderful food. The kebabs are full of flavor. The sponge cake is soaked in sweetened rose water, it's overly sweet. more

wonderful kebobs 4/6/2007

If you love kebobs of any kind, you got to try this restaurant in the shady neighborhood of Tenderloin. The portions are huge. more

best turkish in the bay area 12/8/2006

I've tried all the other so called turkish and mediterrenean restaurants, and a la turca is the best. loved everything i tried from appetizers to pides, sandwiches to kebab platters, so delicious, and priced amazingly low, friendly service excellent chefs in white coats and hats. Pros: good friendly service, prompt seating, great food more

a so so example of turkish cusine 12/2/2006

first of all, if you have even been to turkey you know that turkish food is amazing. as far as turkish food goes, this place is pretty average. i only come here because turkish food is hard to find in the city. if you have the oppertunity, try efes beer. more

Avoid the DONOR Sandwiches!!!!! 8/15/2006

The DONOR sandwiches are nothing like the ones you find all over EUROPE. IT REALLY SUKED! The kababs is what I reccomend. I have to agree with one of the reviews about the description on the menu is not what you get sometimes. Oh WELL! Go for the KEBABS! I REALLY MISS THE DONER KEBAB SANDWICHES in EUROPE! Pros: Good KEBABS Cons: DONORS SANDWICHES... Service was off more

Tasty kebabs at reasonably priced Tenderloin spot 6/18/2006

This is the one of few inexpensively priced Mediterreanean restaurants in the Tenderloin/Union Square area. The kebabs--lamb in particular--are the standout choices, served with rice, salad and bread. Be sure to try one of the many appetizers before your entree, such as the flavorful tabouli. Pides are fine, but on this visit, my beef pide seemed a little dry and under seasoned. Surroundings are pleasant and nicely decorated with traditional art. Pros: Tasty kebabs, wonderful appetizers, nice surroundings Cons: In the Tenderloin more

BEST - Just the Best 7/30/2005

We love this place so much we had our wedding rehearsal dinner here - for what turned out to be almost 50 people. They handled it beautifully: food kept coming; wine kept pouring; they even made room for the belly dancer we brought in. The food here is phenomenal. I don't know how that bread is made, but its brilliant. Try the pides, the sigaras, the cold appetizer plate and all the kebabs. They also make this lamb pizzetti thing that is out of this world. Try the Turkish beer too and never leave without having pistachio baklava. And the real-deal chefs in the hats? As if anything could add more to the ambience? This place is the best value, food, and casual fun. Pros: FOOD, Staff, Private room more

The favorite standbye 1/13/2005

Whenever we don't know where to eat, we go to this restaurant and get one or more of the following: -pides (Turkish sausage and cheese is best) -doner kebab -special (stews or Sunday's manta) We highly recommend this place. Pros: Food, Price, Authentic Cons: , neighborhood more

Delicious, cheap and quick 8/19/2004

This is my favoriate place to go when I'm hungry after shopping downtown and don't want to wait forever at a stuffy restaurant for medicore food. The Turkish plates here are big enough to satisfy but not stuff you, delicious!!!, well-cooked and seasoned and the service is fast and friendly. The location is very convenient for walkers and the variety is great, too! I always leave extremely satisfied. Pros: Excellent food, Lots of variety, Cheap more

Mr P 11/29/2003

The food is wonderfully TURKISH and is the best in the area. If you need great turkish food that won't empty the wallet this is the place. Pros: Great Food, Turkish TV, Inexpensive Cons: No parking Vaidation, Wine list small, No pillows on seats more

Don't Bother 2/25/2003

This is some of the blandest food I've ever eaten. Everything is cucumber, meat and bread. I ordered a chicken and mushroom pie and didn't get onions or peppers, like it said on the menu. I asked ""Where's the onions and peppers?"" They said, ""Oh we don't use onions and peppers. The menu was printed wrong."" The pie/sandwich sure could have used these items. I mean, chicken and mushroom are some of the most tasteless items by themselves. Adding cucumber and tahini sauce doesn't help. Don't bother with this place. Some of the worst food in SF. more

1 good, 3 bad meals 2/8/2003

The first falafel I got was great: grilled lavosh, crisp white cabbage, light sauce, good falafel. But, in the three times since: 1) they forgot the baba in my sandwich and then lied to me when I asked if they charged me for it 2) they forgot the cabbage and hot sauce in my sandwich and the clincher, 3) the falafel balls were uncooked in my last sanwich. Never again and I advise you to avoid this place. Cons: uncooked food, incorrect order, overcharging more

Best Iskender in US 1/19/2003

The food at A la Turca was pleasently suprising! Everything we have tried (including the Iskender kebap, Ispanakli peynirli pide, cacik and even the Kunefe!) tasted almost exactly as it would have if we were in Turkey! I will definetely be back to try others from the menu that we did not get a chance to taste! The service was good, even though it was a very busy day, with all tables occupied. Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful. If you are craving some Turkish food, or better yet, you have not tried it yet and are curious, try A la Turca! You will not be dissapointed. Pros: Good food, Inexpensive, Friendly Staff Cons: Decoration more
