Sharon and I were challenged the moment we stopped in front of Riccardo's Ristorante - in a good way. A man was sitting outside on a bench, resting in the shade of the trees lining the street. As we viewed the menu displayed in the glass case beside the front door, he turned to us and said, "If you aren't satisfied with your meal, it will be on me." Sharon and I had already read the menus displayed in front of several restaurants on the street, and this looked no better or worse than the others, so chose to have our lunch here. Our choice proved to be a very good one. The interior is very relaxing, with warm colors, cotton tableclothes, and tables set with candles. We had a table overlooking the square, with the Paul Revere house in view just up the cobble stone street. Our waitress was very professional and quick - never hovering but always there when we needed her. You would have never guessed she was a college student from a nearby waterfront town, working in Boston for the summer - - she was great! The wine list was very good, with some excellent red wines by the glass. Our appetizers were preceded by freshly made bread with olive oil. We chose the crab cakes, which were very good but didn't compare to those we've had on Block Island or Falmouth, MA. Still, they were very good. The main courses were outstanding! The Risotto alla Riccardo was absolutely delicious, with an excellent combination of cheeses and very tender chicken. Sharon had the Fusilli con Gamberi. It too was delicious with shrimp in a cognac reduction with fresh fusilli and parmigiano reggiano. It was a tasty experience from beginning to end, including the desert. And the man sitting outside of the restaurant was the owner. He added to our North End experience!
