For my birthday this year, my husband gave me the most wonderful surprise. A ride from Newport Gondola Company.
What you get is your own private Gondola, a picnic basket with grapes, wine , cheeses and crackers. You get your own personal boat "driver". He takes you for a one hour cruise of the quiet, Newport back bay. You sit in the back with a blanket provided and enjoy the ride and the Italian music the driver plays.
This is a very romantic thing to do for a loved one. The owner told my husband and I that this is a very popular place for proposals, so if you are thinking of popping the question, give Newport Gondola a try. The owners are very nice, friendly people who will gladly give you pointer on where to eat close by.
