Wish I knew the dentist's name I saw 1-1/2 years ago at Sunrise Dental, but know I'll never go back. My initial complaint was pain in a upper back tooth supporting a bridge of three teeth. The dentist I saw looked at the x-ray his assistant took and determined that the tooth and the bridge had to come out due to infection, which would leave a large gap in my mouth and it would cost me $400.00 for the extraction. He further stated that the bone loss was so significant that a transplant or root canal was not an option.Thank God I listened to my gut as well as this dentist's assistant who encouraged me to 'really' think about it before I decide - as my chewing ability would be difficult. She was an angel, but (I feel) the dentist was only interested in the fee. I lived with the discomfort for a year and a half until I decided to return to my regular dental care facility (UNC Dental School) where another x-ray was taken and the dentist told me that their was no infection in the tooth and, even though there is bone loss, there is absolutely no reason to extract the tooth or perform a root canal. The pain was caused by the bridge itself and 'not' the tooth. They simply adjusted the height of the bridge and the pain has disappeared.
