I started taking pilates and belly dance group classes with Valerie Rushmere over the summer, just to keep myself active because I don't work as much in the summer months (ahem: couch potato weight-gain). But now, I'm hooked. Attending classes here is often the highlight of my week. I don't think I'd have gotten hooked if Valerie wasn't such an awesome instructor. She's really good at looking at what I'm doing with my body, finding the trouble spots, and tweaking my movement and alignment for the better. I've also started doing private pilates sessions with Valerie, which has worked wonders for my alignment (which I'd never even thought about before) and posture. Simply by learning how to better align my legs, I've noticed that my knees don't hurt as much, and they rarely do that popping thing anymore - a side benefit I hadn't even expected. The work I do in her classes, both belly dance and pilates, makes me feel so good, and has really changed my perspective on my body. I feel stronger, more empowered, more self-aware. I've even noticed my stomach getting a bit flatter - another side benefit on which I hadn't been counting! Pros: personal attention, clean bathrooms, fun
