Purchased a water heater 6/2011. It leaked 1 hour after installation. The repair person came out 3 hours later and fixed it. I didn't notice at the time but they had NOT installed the vent pipe correctly! It was NOT attached to the water heater or to the vent stack. I began to smell gas in the closet. on 10/2011 I called AAA to come out and repair. The repair person said it was installed correctly, but when all the vent stack fell to the floor, he had to fix it. He did a partial fix, but left a hole in the vent system and did not attach the vent pipe to the water heater. When I pointed this out, he asked to borrow screws from me to attach the vent pipe but told me there was no hole and "that's as good as it's going to get! If you want it fixed better you will have to call Monday and have the original person come fix it - it's his job!" I still have gas exhaust and CO2 leaking into my closet. I am going to call the city to come out and inspect the work.
