Overpriced + Pretentious = Bristol Farms 5/24/2008

"Extraordinary food, extraordinary service" is the claim at Bristol Farms. The only thing extraordinary about this overrated franchise is the prices. Everything here costs $1-$3 more than you'd find anywhere else. The same bag of Tostitos, the same box of Cheerios, the same milk & eggs you'd get anywhere else, but all of it costs more. Because Bristol Farms offers a few organic or gourmet items, people have the impression that this place sells high quality foods exclusively, but the truth is that you'll be getting the same stuff you'll find at Ralph's for extortionate prices. This location is especially bad and overpriced, even for Bristol Farms. There is literally nothing you can get here that you can't get from Ralph's or Whole Foods less than a mile up the street on Westwood. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else. Produce? Forget about it. Green seedless grapes cost $4.69 per pound. Don't take my word for it, go to their website and look at their absurd prices. The parking lot is always full of Mercedes and BMWs, so if you can afford to drive a luxury car and you don't mind shopping for onions next to Prada toting snobs, then this might be the store for you. But for everyone else--the people who live in the real world--you'll be better off buying your groceries from any one of the small neighborhood markets for 1/5th the cost. more
