Residential Hotels 2/6/2007

Residential Hotels cater to single working people predominately in the service trade. And low income people predominately senior citizens. Another name for these hotels are Single Residency Occupancy (SRO.) They rent rooms by the month. The average rent is between $500.00 - $600.00. The average room is small. A majority of residential hotels are located in the seedier parts of the cities. Alcohol, drugs, mental conditions and prostitution runs rampant among the tenants. In one form or another. Not to mention bed bugs and cockroaches, The staff is predominately unskilled and paid minimum wage. Many senior citizens have been found dead in their rooms, due to in most cases they are not checked on, until their rent is due. Or someone complains of the stink coming from a room. In many cases these hotels are a death trap for senior citizens. I know, I live there! more
