Wilson Farm is a family-run farm stand/store in Lexington. But it's a lot more. Stocking produce year-round from purveyors across the country (where else do they add labels next to each fruit telling you where it came from?), Wilson Farms has become my go-to store for all our fruits and vegetables. Their prices are reasonable -- often less than you'd pay at Star Market or Stop and Shop -- and the quality of their produce can put even Whole Foods to shame.
Parking on the weekends can be a nightmare -- I like to show up around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday and miss the rush.
In addition to produce, Wilson Farms has great flowers, plants and shrubs in the summer, and even a real barn area where kids can go and see (maybe even pet?) the animals. My favorite time of year is fall, when they have homemade cider donuts, fresh-pressed cider, and a pile of pumpkins that would make the Great Pumpkin blush.

If Russ and I ever leave Cambridge -- and we probably will -- Formaggio Kitchen will be one of the places we are most sorry to leave behind.
Cheeses from around the world (many aged in a cheese cave below the store), cured meats and house-made pates, olive oils, wines, artisanal breads, chocolates and sweets. Truly, it's like you've died and gone to heaven.
Gourmet food doesn't come cheap -- I have a hard time leaving without spending $20-50 (on CHEESE!) -- but as the sign tacked up to the butcher counter says, "Life is too short to eat supermarket cheeses."

A friend referred me to Dr. Loren Wilson at North Cambridge Dental Associates a few years ago and I have since referred almost too many folks to mention.
Dr. Wilson is NICE. He offers reduced rates for teachers, and doesn't charge you for your check-up (just the cleaning) if you don't have dental insurance.
He's not trying to sell you anything. I have grooves in my molars that another dentist called cavities and tried to get me to fill. Dr. Wilson said as long as I brushed regularly, they'd be fine. Four years later, they're still fine.
He's a good dentist. I've had him replace one filling, and have no complaints. I have another friend who had serious work done on his mouth -- I mean SERIOUS work -- but still gives Dr. Wilson rave reviews.
He'll go out of his way to accommodate you. His assistants will call you before an appointment to make sure you can still make it -- and will persist in calling until you call them back to confirm that you can. But if you're trying to get an appointment, they'll also call and let you know if an appointment frees up.

Flour Bakery is such a find I'm reluctant to share it. Founded by Joanne Chang (former pastry chef at Rialto in Cambridge), this tiny South End bakery and cafe offers literally the best cookies, pastries and sandwiches I've found. Better yet, it's on a part of Washington Street (right near Mass Ave) that gets low enough traffic that you can often find a place to park right out front.
While its handful of tables fill up quickly at lunch, Flour makes a perfect meeting spot for a mid-morning snack or late afternoon latte. Their cookies are the best I've tasted; their brownies convinced me that it was possible to make something to-die-for without adding chocolate chips or frosting. At breakfast, favorite choices include ginger scones and Flour's very grown up version of a pop tart -- layers of puff pastry, fruit filling, frosted with glaze on top. At lunch, homemade soups, salads, gourmet personal pizzas and sandwiches like Roasted Lamb with Tomato Chutney and Goat Cheese or Roast Chicken, Avocado & Jicama on home-baked bread raise the bar.
Whatever you do, make sure you save room for dessert.

Reliable Market in Union Square is terrific. Sushi grade tuna (and other creatures of the sea) at great prices -- along with other Asian snacks and goods. Good value and quality.

Fishmonger is located next to Formaggio Kitchen and Hallie's Garden on Huron Avenue in Cambridge. Get there by taking the Huron Avenue bus (72?) from Harvard Square.
My husband and I make our own smoked salmon, and we always buy our fish there. (It's fresh and well-prepped -- no pin bones.)
They often have several prepared fish dishes on hand as well -- crab cakes, chowders, fish pates, etc.
