My husband had read consumer reports and decided he wanted to buy a passat back in 2002. Rusty Wallis was the 2nd dealer he went to. What sealed the deal for the purchase of the car at the price agreed upon was a set of discount coupons worth $500 to be used in their service department, and these coupons would not expire throughout the life of the car. Well well, now they are not accepting these coupons, per Rusty Wallis himself. That is deceptive and just bad business practice. If that doesn't make you think twice, they also seem to 'forget' about problems reported with the car when we bring it in- we just took it in for 40,000 mile check up (at a cost of $500!) and also reported a problem with a squeeling noise when you make a hard turn. They first told us they couldn't duplicate the noise - well, sorry it's unmistakable and occurs 100% of the time. Then they admitted that they forgot to check into it. This dealer in Garland is a 45 minute drive from our house, the only reason we hadn't gone to the closer Boardwalk dealer is that their sales dept snubbed my husband when he tried to go look at the passat back in 02. Guess where our car is right now --- at Boardwalk Volks in Plano getting that weird noise resolved. Their sales dept may have been lacking but so far service seems to be very attentive and pay attention to detail. We're trying them out. Still love the Passat - a very nice car with great safety features and has proven to be a good decision. The noise turned out to be the ac fan motor going out. It was all covered under warranty. Hooray! more
