I guess the story on this place is that two brothers from England came to America and learned to make barbeque. It's a cute story, but what I really like about this place is the food. You can get a slab of ribs with great sauce, a huge sandwich and sides like baked beans. It's messy, it's filling, it's cheap, and it's always good.

Get to Gov's Park early to stake out a table on the patio. It's always crowded, but for good reason. The beer is cheap, the food is good and it's a fantastic place to people watch. If you don't get a table outside, you can play pool or watch sports indoors. They also have trivia nights so you can gather your friends and compete while you enjoy huge glasses of beer.

While the service here is hit or miss, and the menu changes almost daily, you can count on consistently good French food at very reasonable prices. This is not a place I'd choose for a romantic dinner or for special occasions, it can get a bit loud and crowded, and the service can be slow. But it's a great place to treat yourself to lunch during the week.

I've only eaten at Bambino's once, and although I've heard good things about it from others, my experience was not good. I met a friend there on a weeknight and noticed that the servers outnumbered the patrons two to one. You'd think on a slow night like that we'd get great service, but instead the servers were standing around gabbing like it was their night off. We sat several minutes before our drink orders were taken, then several more to order.
The bread with herbed butter was delicious, but the ravioli I ordered tasted like something that had been frozen and hastily reheated. It was very bland. I would have liked to console myself with a second glass of wine, but by the time a server appeared we were ready to go.

I love to give my business to local restaurants, and I'd much rather eat at a quaint family restaurant than a chain. Unfortunately, the food at Dario's was so bland and uninspired that my boyfriend and I left hungry. We each ordered different pasta dishes, and they were each terrible. You would think that an authentic Italian restaurant would keep their kitchen stocked with fresh herbs and spices, but that did not seem to be the case.

Coral Room is located in the fast growing Highland neighborhood. They serve delicious Asian fusion in a fun atmosphere. Their happy hour features incredible appetizers at half price (not your usual bar food) as well as drink specials, and on weekend evenings they have a D.J.
The seared ahi is always amazing, and we always start with edamame and coconut prawns with peanut sauce. They also serve a very interesting carrot ginger soup that I love.

J's Noodles is a little off the beaten path, located on Federal a few blocks south of Alameda, but they serve great Thai food at very reasonable prices.
It's a tiny restaurant located in a strip mall, but you can usually get a table and the service is fast. I would recommend the Drunken Noodles and the Thai Iced Tea.

This is a great restaraunt for a date. It has a cozy, quaint atmosphere. You can even see into the kitchen and watch the chefs preparing you meal, or look at the chalkboards hanging from the ceiling and plan for dessert.
My only wish is that they would expand the menu a bit or change it more often.

Somethin' Else is always crowded on weekend nights, but it is well worth the wait. When there is a long wait, the hostess will take your cell phone number and call you when your table is ready, so you have plenty of time to go down the street for a drink. (Their bar area is tiny.)
But it's worth the wait for the delicious small plates that they serve. From the simple bowl of seasoned almonds to the fantastic mussels, this food is made for sharing. And you can order as much or as little as you like. It's a great place to stop on a weeknight for a quick salad and glass of wine, or go and linger over several dishes with friends.

Potager changes their menu about once per month to reflect what is in season. They use fresh produce and meat from local farmers. You can order in the traditional manner and get a salad followed by a large entree, or you and your dining companion can share several small plates.
They don't take reservations, but there is plenty of room in the bar area if you need to wait. If you are lucky, you'll get a table on the patio.
