I went to Thrifty Joes to see if they were a book trader. I found out, much to my chagrin, that they only bought books. The sales clerk was very helpful and provided me with a pamphlet with all the Arizona booksellers and suggested a few that provided credit for trades.
I looked around Thrifty Joes and thought it was a neat store. They have an incredible selection of used books. It is organized very well.
Prices are high for a used book store, at least where I used to live. This is definitely a convenient place to find specific books you are looking for, but you I prefer hunting in thrift stores and on E-bay....due to the lower prices.
I also don't think they pay a decent price for books. According to the clerk, they randomly select a price for the book based on condition and the demand. I'm sure they mark them up at least 50% so, one may get $2.00-$3.00 for a quality hardback book. I can't say for certain because I won't be selling any books there, but based on my experience that's what I'd estimate.
At any rate, if I'm in need of a very specific book I would be willing to pay full price for, I might check out Thrifty Joes to see if they have it there before going to a retailer. Other than that, you won't see me in there hunting.
