Everyone is a glass artist! 8/8/2005

Great for the mom who wants to expand her child's creativity beyond painting glaze on a pottery piece. Glassworks studio is a unique, brightly lit, colorful place that is both child and adult friendly. During studio hours, you can walk in, be run through the entire process of fusing or sandblasting glass, pick a project, and be guided through the creation of your very own piece. No experience or appointments are necessary! Blasting is especially friendly for little ones who you don't want working with cut glass, since it can be as simple as planning out a design using stickers. With blasting, they also get to take their piece home that day instead of waiting for it to be fired. Glassworks also offers summer camp sessions for the little ones, year-round adult classes, very cute birthday party packages with a special party room, and more. Keep in mind that since art glass is expensive and kilns must run at at least 1200 degrees for more than 12 hours, your pieces may be a bit steeper than the typical pottery, glaze, and quick fire. There are many projects you can make for under $25, including most sandblasting projects, and fused picture frames, small bowls or plates, bracelets, barrettes, and night lights. Some large pieces, such as serving platters can run up for $100, so be sure to ask for a price estimate before you dive into an ambitious project. It's always good to start small and see how you like the process first. more
