Two weeks ago today we lost our beloved canine family member. He suffered from a number of things, and was being seen by Dr.Lang. We struggled with his extreme anxiety and pain in his knees and hips. We watched his personality change over the last year and watched the number of medications bottles grow. He was 7. When hypothyroidism was confirmed with a blood test the meds helped a little but did little to help all his problems in general. The next time we saw Dr. Lang and informed him of Elliott's condition, he said our only options were Prozac and behavioral therapy. Our decision was made and it was not to add one more med to the list and behavioral therapy for an anxiety issue was not the answer. When I told Dr. Lang we made the heart wrenching decision to have him put to sleep and stop the suffering he became a different person. We were shown a cold, impersonal side I couldn't imagine in these circumstances. I had other family members there for support and one of the other office employees mentioned to them that Dr. Lang has a problem with Euthanasia procedures. Not exactly what one wants to hear. I didn't need my hand held or to cry on his shoulder but a kind word or some reassurance we believed what we were doing was right would have been nice. We have had multiple dogs over 57 years and have had to go through this part of life before but have never run into this kind of person for a veterinarian. I'm writing this so all those who will have to do this, will never have the memory of the loss of there pet coupled with the memory of the poor \r behavior of the Dr. involved. My hope for Dr. Lang is that with maturity will come compassion, but it won't be on the learning curve of my family, friends and neighbors furry loved ones. more
