It's a little pricey, even for the frame business. I am writing this review before seeing my finished framed artwork because I am having it framed and tried to arrange it to be mailed. I am working out of the country. First of all, I bought an $800 painting that was 3 x 3 feet from an artist friend for $400 since he moved back out of the U.S. When I shopped for a frame, the modern wooden frame was to cost me $450 plus $35 labor. When I asked about mailing he said it would be mailed by a nearby UPS mailer and could cost up to $220. He said he would have to have a custom crate made to mail it. When I called to make arrangement and before I sent the mailing address, he came up with a price of $180 for the wooden crate. Now, I don't know about other places, but I'm guessing he hires some cheap latin laborer in the area for that crate. That was the last straw, but it was too late to cancel the frame, which he said was coming from New York, so I relented and had him frame it, despite the fact I should have just mailed it unframed to my final destination of New Mexico and had it framed there. You tell me: is it worth over 2 times the price of the artwork to have it framed and mailed? Buyers beware….unless you have an expensive enough piece to frame, the high prices they are asking are difficult to justify, regardless of how good a frame job they do. more
