All about the $$$$ 5/10/2012

I went to PMC for a first visit today to get both of my dogs their annual vaccinations. In the past, we have always gone to VCA of Westerville (which I mention to show that I don't shy away from spending $ for quality care). The vet spent a lot of time with each dog, which was nice, but then there was a ""misunderstanding"" regarding a Wellness Exam. He explained a wellness exam offered x-rays, blood work, etc. at a discounted cost and I said I'd like to schedule one. Instead of scheduling for a later date, they whisked my dogs back and took blood samples without my knowing. They tried to charge me almost $700! I asked them not to do the lab work and got the Wellness Exam charges knocked off, thankfully (although it was still $230 for 2 exams and not even a full set of vaccines). At VCA, our distemper and parvo vaccines were separate, with the distemper lasting 3 yrs and the parvo lasting 1. Therefore, the dogs needed just parvo updated. However, PMC didn't have a separate parvo vacc, so the vet said it'd be ok to just give a full 3 yr distemper-parvo. I even asked him a second time if that was OK and not dangerous, and he assured me it would be fine. Well, sure enough, one of my dogs had a vaccine reaction for the first time in her life. I took her back to PMC within 30 minutes of leaving the first time, and they kept her for 1 1/2 hours. When I went to pick her up, they charged me an additional $110 for treating the reaction that they had just caused.. you would think they could have at least charged me ""cost"" for the steroids and medication instead of regular price. I will definitely NOT be returning, and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. more
