Gross!! Will never eat there again. I have eaten several times at Keg and Lantern, and their chicken sandwich is amazing! I have raved to all my friends that visit, and direct their appetite to visit this restaurant. Just like I did tonight, when I had two friends visit whom I have not seen in almost 9 months. Towards the end of our meal, we noticed a large cockroach crawling on the brick wall near our table. And our mouths dropped with disgust. Yes, it is New York City. BUT this is a restaurant with an A rating on their window!! Further to our disgust as we now stared at the dark dimly lit brick wall we saw large cockroaches crawling out from cracks to hide under signs, then another different large cockroach crawled out of the top corner and down onto the mantel (we were in the quiet back room.. I guess it was a little too quiet and the bugs felt comfortable). After watching this for several minutes, we were lucky to get the attention of a waitress to look at one of the cockroaches. Hey, excuse me miss - there is a cockroach on the wall. She was shocked, and felt bad - and immediately ran for help. She returned with two cooks from the kitchen, one holding a napkin that plucked the cockroach off the brick fireplace mantel. The cook was very good about the cockroach, perhaps a little too good? The waitress returned to tell us the place is fumigated all the time, there are exterminators every week, and that it is an old building.... excuse me? I should be okay with cockroaches on the walls because it is an old building?? really?? How about, NO - not okay because this is a RESTAURANT! Also, the idea of insect chemicals being sprayed on everything in a restaurant should also appease my disgust? We were focused on the wall the rest of the time we waited for our check, and shared our favorite cockroach stories in disgust. The check arrived at the table, and the waitress was pleased to let us know one of our four meals was taken off the bill. Wow. I don't think a restaurant should serve food that has cockroaches crawling on the walls - let alone charge someone to eat there. I didn't protest - I shouldn't have to defend why food should not be sold where cockroaches openly roam the walls. Also, I was with my two good friends, and another friend. I felt bad for them, and apologized as this was the place I recommended for delicious food & bar ambiance. I will never be returning, it was that disgusting. I have such a gross taste in my mouth, I really should have demanded we don't pay a penny.
