My gut reaction the first time I walked in there was that I did not like the cuts of any of the staff and they were all excessively tattooed (@Decatur Location). Despite my gut reaction, however, I started going to Salon Red because my spouse goes there and really liked them.
When I first started going there, they put me with a fantastic stylist and equally fantastic colorist. Initially my experiences were good save one small incident where they were slammed due to a Scoutmob coupon and they had to pass me around to get my hair dry and styled. This was not so bad, except that when they passed me off to the trainee to style my hair, the owner got completely impatient and b*tchy about what he was doing to my hair and sent him off to do something else. This would have been fine, except that she said to me "I am sorry he was making your hair look like straw" and then proceeded to continue to make it look like straw.
A few months later, I scheduled my regular color. The morning of color, I received a call from the Salon saying that my colorist was sick and that they had rescheduled me with someone else. They did not ASK if I wanted to reschedule, but just put me with someone else. I went in, reluctantly, and tried the new colorist, who was okay, but did nothing but disparage my regular colorist. Then something really weird happened: right as I was walking up front to pay, my regular colorist came walking in! He looked at me strangely and I looked at him strangely. I started to go over to ask him how he was feeling, but was intercepted by someone else who rushed me out the door. I later learned that my colorist had given 2 months notice as he was moving to New York. Rather than allow him to work, the owner decided instead to start transferring his clients to others without his knowledge and without being asking his clients.
Since that time, I've learned a number of things about the questionable business practices of this Salon. Suffice to say I will never go there again and have taken my business to another Salon that treats its staff and customers well.
