I had made reservations through our hotel concierge for this restaurant five days prior to our arrival in Vail and was looking forward to eating here. I called 30 minutes before our reservation to reconfirm and ask for a more private table and was told by the hostess that our reservation had been cancelled because they had sold out the restaurant that night and were kicking us out, and they ""had been trying to reach us for weeks"". Obviously that wasn't the case because we hadn't been booked ""for weeks"", and I confirmed with the concierge at the hotel that they had never received any sort of call from the restaurant to let them know this had happened. The woman at Ludgwig's that I spoke with was not apologetic at all, and instead made it clear that it was our tough luck that we now had no dinner reservations, and didn't even offer to help us. The hotel concierge was furious about this and apologized profusely, and ended up rebooking us at Larkspur. That turned out for the best, because we had a blast! The food was probably the best I have ever had in Vail, and Ben (our waiter) was an incredibly funny and knowledgeable guy. We also heard from a number of patrons that Ludwig's was overrated, and places like Larkspur and Pepi's were much better. So, in the end, I'm happy that Ludwig's booted us, because we otherwise would not have found a much better restaurant and had the amazing night we had. I would stay away from Ludwig's because they clearly do not value their customers.
