Beware: Dishonest Owner 9/23/2010

The owner of Platinum Autos is a very dishonest man. I bought a car from them 3 years ago, and I was $1,000 short. We agreed that I'd pay the remaining $1,000 a month later. I wrote them a check dated for a month later. But the next day I checked my account and they had already cashed the check. The bank teller must have overlooked the date on it. But for Platinum, what a great way to keep your promise, right? And now.. 3 years later. We went there and told them that we need to sell our car quick, but we weren't able to find our title. The owner was totally ignorant with us. He told us that without a title you can't sell a car. And said since they're the ones who sold us the car, only they can handle the situation. He told us that either we could wait 10 weeks for a new title, or we could sell our car to them right away and they'd handle all the paperwork. He was like: ""There's a lot of paperwork involved with a lost title, and it's costly, but we'll handle that for you."" He was totally acting as if he was doing us a favor. During talking with us, he was't even paying full attention to us. He was going and talking to other people, showing cars and motorcycles to other people, etc. We asked how much he'd pay if we sold the car to them. He printed us a paper of all the same make cars sold in US in the last month by 'auction', and with the same ignorance, he told us our car would worth around $7,000. We didn't understand why he'd show us the prices of auction cars, since auction cars are cars sold cheap for various reasons. Anyways, we were totally unhappy with the way he treated us. Then we did our research and learned that you CAN actually sell your car very easily with your title being lost. All you need to do is to fill an Affidavit of Loss of Title form in a vehicle licencing office. And the 'cost' that the owner mentioned is: $12. Yes, for twelve dollars, you can release your interest on the car and sell it the same day. The owner of course knew this and didn't share it with us, because he wanted us to think as if only he could handle that. We ended up selling our car for $10,000. He was planning to buy our car 30% less than what it's worth by taking advantage of our situation. You should expect anything from this guy. He is a typical example of dishonest car dealers. more
