Integrity issues--Steer clear! 9/24/2010

I had taken my sister?s Dodge Intrepid to Dublin Auto over a year ago for suspension work. I thought it was a little overpriced at the time, but they seem to be transparent with the costs and honest about what REALLY had to be fixed. A few months ago I took my 2003 Honda Pilot in for a tune-up. Again, the cost seemed a little high (compared to other service stations), but I was happy with the honesty and transparency. Since I had come to trust Dublin?s work (mistake), I took my Pilot back in to replace the timing belt on 14 Sep even though the quote was several hundred dollars more than another shop. The next day the owner called and said the cam-shaft pulley bolt (that holds on the harmonic balancer) had broken when it was being removed. They first blamed Honda for inserting the wrong bolt and settled on blaming the Honda factory for torquing the bolt too much. The logic they used did not make sense and they would not accept any of the responsibility for breaking the bolt. In addition, they charged an outrageous amount to remove the broken bolt and then had the audacity to imply they saved the crank shaft from damage. I really do not know what happened with the bolt, but there doesn?t seem to be a problem with cam-shaft pulley?s being torqued too much on this engine (3.5L V6). I now feel the proprietors of Dublin Auto Care have serious integrity issues. I have yet to decide whether to file in small claims to recover the $600 over the estimate that I ended up paying. Either way, steer clear! more
