A bunch of caring people! 7/10/2010

When my youngest dog had been throwing up all morning and my boyfriend voiced his concerns about salmon blood poisoning I was in a panic. I had just moved to the area and hadn't considered looking for a vet yet (because the closest are in Richland). I was just going to take my dogs to their usual vet in Newcastle (Renton). So I did a search and found 3 vets. VCA was the first I called and got their exam price. I told them I'd like to call the other vets first before I made my decision. The next one the exam price was alot higher and the third had the same exam price as VCA, however, they said they could schedule me in a couple weeks to come in. Uh...don't you know with salmon blood poisoning my dog could be DEAD by then? So I called up VCA and they let me know they were extremely busy but to come down when I could and they could see what they could do. We got there and I filled out initial paperwork and within 10 minutes the nurse came and got us. She asked questions about what my dog had been doing, what she could have ingested, etc. She then had me wait for the vet...a total of 5 minutes. The vet did her testing and we sat down (she even put up the table so we could talk face to face without a barrier and explained the 3 things that could be causing my dog to be sick, how to test for each one and what treatment would be for each one. She then printed out an approximate cost to have me sign so I know what I was going to be charged. The nurse then took my dog to x-ray when the machine was available. She said it'd be an hour so I went to run an errand. When I got back I waited about 10 - 15 minutes when the doctor came out with the outcome and the pills needed to treat salmon blood poisoning. She explained how often to give it to my dog, how long it would take effect, what my dog could eat today and even told me they gave my dog an anti-nausea shot so the poor thing could eat (and get her first meds). She also explained that it wasn't in the first estimate so I wouldn't be freaking out. :) I went home very happy (and probably my dog too!). The next the vet herself called to see how my dog was doing (amazingly better). She then called again today to check up. The people who work here are incredibly kind and caring and knowledgeable and I'm not going anywhere else. I enjoyed our experience there. Pros: quick, knowledgeable, caring, decent prices Cons: nothing! more
