BEWARE - SCAM MECHANICS!! 5/12/2010

THESE PEP BOYS MECHANICS WILL SCAM YOU. I went in for a part for my brakes, they offered me a free brake inspection.. I thought what the heck let them look it over before I spend any time out of my day working on it. The guy says the inspection will take 30 minutes, an hour later he comes out and says it's going to cost me $1100 dollars to fix the calipers, brake discs, shoes, hoses.. He says if I don't get it done right away I might have a wreck. I know how to fix these things myself, and i'm upset thinking about the money I'm gonna have to shell out for the parts. So after I get home I decide to have a look at the parts myself, and lo and behold there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the parts. The calipers are not leaking as they claimed, the hoses are perfectly fine, the discs are fine.. I was stunned at the blatant attempted rip-off I had just discovered. Rather than go back and try and make a stink, which I know will get nowhere with these people, I contacted local news to see if they'd want to do a sting.. Haven't heard back yet. Hopefully this review will reach somebody before they get taken. Let me add that I also drove my car to a local garage that's been around for years and is well trusted in the community, where we get all our big repairs done, and they said Pep Boys has a long reputation for this sort of thing and told me all the horror stories they've heard over the years. They also confirmed nothing was wrong with my brake system... BE WARNED!! Cons: Mechanics will try to scam you more
